sorry guys, a bit of sleep and this little speed bump called life ...kept getting in my WAY!! :banghead: especially the unexpected stuff...arrgh

ok now back to business
bitsbubba yeah I can do both of those, im feelin em too! so I'll think of something. just give me a day or two. :D But I'll get to it.

oh and I did put the raf from that coldboot i made in the right folder in the right place within your app, but it didn't show on the menu of the app. kinda like those others i mentioned. I did make adjustments to the list txt too but nothing. pinky's waves do show tho and are selectable

pinky..yeah I was thinking it couldn't tremendously hard/er so I will tackle them one day here soon

the most difficult thing about the wave is optimizing. it takes so much time that I rarely do it. I'm still not entirely sure what a lot of configurations actually affect. the best way to learn that would probably be debugging the wave rather than altering one setting at a time, then testing. the coldboot is much easier to manage in that regard, 'cause a normal white coldboot has something like 70 lines of settings while the wave has nearly 2,000. though, some themes have a lot more than that. :p like sandungas said, sony most likely debugged the wave to optimize it, and I'm sure devs are probably able to debug their themes as well. it'd definitely save the headache.

There is an specific theme that is empty and loads the .raf animation externally (is recognized internally by the PS3 as an special theme with special features)
This theme is used by official theme developers to finetune the .raf animations, because are needed hundreds of tests, you need to have the PS3 connected to the PC with the image editions tools where you are working, raf compiler, etc... and target manager (i think)
From target manager you send the .raf to the PS3 and the theme displays the new .raf inmediatlly without rebooting the PS3 or reapplying the theme, you actually dont even need to grab the dualshock, all is made remotelly from the PC

Thats the fastest and correct way to work with .raf animations but i never tryed it, im not sure if is supposed to work only in DEX machines, and also i remember to read sony blocked that theme in a previous firmware (in older firmwares it was working in CEX and DEX but at some point sony made changes in the firmware and stopped working for CEX)

Edit:
This is official stuff, is explained in the sdk docs but not very detailed, if someone knows how to make it work please explain, im interested in it

With the wave is different stuff
You need to realize sony provides with tools and debug features to official theme developers, this is why we can take advantage of it to create .raf animations
But the wave is part of the firmware, and sony doesnt provides any tools or info to external developers... is internal stuff but for sure they has a way to debug it... trying to imagine how they created the wave is completly speculative

Another difference between .raf animations and the wave is:
The wave is an .elf and inside it are all the code operations and we are not modifying it, probably is complex code related with graphics and needs reversing, and incase of understanding how it works probably is better to rewrite it from scratch instead of patching it in a dirty way that will be always limited. What we are modifying are the .mnu files that contains the settings loaded by the .elf so our changes are veeeeeeery limited (but the .elf is ready to load any shit we put on the .mnu files included some values that makes the wave crash because triggers math operations out of order)

The .raf animations contains a javascript-like file wich complexity can go from simple stuff like "display image in position X and do nothing"... up to very complex code because most of the javascript language is supported plus some more stuff sony added specific for playstation so you can create a really app inside a .raf (this goes out of the purpose of .raf because are intended to be simple, but is technically posible to put lot of complex code inside them). We can modify this code or create it from scratch so we have complete controll of .raf format

Damn ! This sounds more monumental ! but Im gonna mess with it see what happens
bitsbubba im working on those pics right now I should be done with a least one today... I wanted to make 2 for each because I had 2 ideas for each and unless I actually do them they will stay in my head forever...im weird that way.

so you will see em soon!

working on a few more pics (if I got the time, also figured out why the coldboots aren't showing in the installer, it's a simple typo use "~" instead of "-" in between mine and atreyu's name

I did a coldboot of one of those images. it contains no footer, but I was thinking of a reverse footer if possible.

I did the same with this one. I wasn't able to test it as I'm playing Shovel Knight on the Wii-U atm. I actually created this one very quickly while the game was on pause. ;) three-minute, hexed-in coldboot.

just tested. works fine. though, it might look better if bitsbubba u detach the mouth portion from the upper head. make that black with the teeth semi-transparent. I made all of the body grey to give it transparency, but I think the mouth would look better with negative space. :)

I'm constantly tweeking that pic, I'm never quite satisfied with the finished product, same with the other it went through many font changes and icon positions before it came to what it is now

since it's ur pic, u should tell me what u think of the coldboot. at some point, I expect an "I love pinky" image even if it's secretly via a pm. ;) anyway, a normal white coldboot will see between white (opaque) and black (transparent) with grey (808080) being semi-transparent, so that u can see the wave within the coldboot. photoshop is not my strong suit, otherwise I would've changed it myself. I dunno. do u think it'd look better the way I suggested?

pinky none of my boots have fading between the waves, I found that when eliminating the fade the image lasts longer in its full glory unless the image is better suited for a fade... but that's just me.

here's the one I did for bits earlier this week...I did change the wording now for anyone else to "your're next" but will change it again to "u r next" makes more sense lol

Here's a harley quinn (not finished but works. I have to work on the echoing in the sound and add a "ghost" image of joker somewhere or her explosive jack in the box thingies or something along those lines)

bitsbubba pinky here are 2 using only PS3 scene logo, im working on the cobra today. Both are full scenes and the ummm boxing one...is just retarded! im even ashamed I did it lol. I was being goofy. I had to make the logo solid because in each scene the transparency wouldn't work for that scene. But im working on a 3rd with the transparency intact! ....then the cobra one ..one with xparency and one without maybe more we'll see. Im doing them while I watch some football!

Cobra Byte... another full screen (but on this one I would like to remove all the black background

Update: here is the raf only for the cobra byte boot...this one , i just took off as much black as possible quickly. but it looks messy to me, however someone else right next to me just told me they liked it. we'll see

sorry I didn't zip them , I have permanent folders in the hdd0 so I just ftp the changes or copy paste in multiman real quick

here r the previews for urs:

the reasons urs don't fade in/out is the script. plus, that script only works for black and white coldboots. colors will display as a garbled mess as I've tested one out before.

btw, if u want to extract image(s) from a coldboot, remove the first eight bytes in hex, use simplyzip to decompress the coldboot, drop the compressed coldboot into p3textractor, remove the portion of the file name after gtf, and finally use gtf2dds to convert the image(s). this will work for both colored and noncolored coldboots.

pinky...sweet thanks for letting me know! That way I can ...."borrow" from some other rafs and maybe mold them to a bit more my style... although that boxing one is so bad :embarrassed:. no more watching vintage mike tyson in his prime vids on youtube!

I like the cobra byte full screen (if you get a chance maybe you can post that one too, I think its my fave of the bunch) but im not feelin the transparent version...not the logo just the whole thing...I got a lot of background to remove. So thanks again for all the info! much appreciated

Now I want to take both the cobra transparent logo and the ps3 scene and incorporate them both maybe...so bitsbubba can pick the one he likes , he'll have some choices

if u mean the cobra head, I did that one on the first page. I'll need bitsbubba to detach the mouth from the upper part of the head, 'cause it looks funny. I paint bucket'd all of it since replacing the color still resulted in semi-transparency within photoshop. the white coldboots use a 700 x 350 or 240 x 120 background for hd/sd respectively. they'll need to fit into that or they won't fit into the hex correctly. I personally like the transparent coldboots more than the colored ones, but u do have a lot more freedom with the colored coldboots.

pinky I was looking at your tutorial for the waves from ps3hax. but it seems outdated do you have any new replacement files or one that is updated...although Im sure most will still work, but it may save me some time lol

thanks

they added some info from maxconsole which I didn't add to being banned. I can't tell u about that, but it'd be the last or couple tutorials. I also added, here, theme pkg files which isn't anywhere else. waves should be the same though.
