PS3 PKGLAUNCHER (webMAN MOD Addon) now supporting additional RetroArch-libretro cores with new update

Developer @aldostools has supplied an update to one of the add-on's for webMAN MOD plugin for PS3 (CFW) user's. The PKGLAUNCHER feature which debuted on the project in wMM v1.45.04 allows for launching of RetroArch Roms from the XMB via the pkglauncher tool. With RetroArch making changes to cores names and new cores being supported on the PS3, developer Aldostools decided an update was needed and thus this new build has been rolled out for webMAN MOD user's. This is currently labeled as a test build so if you experience any issues be sure to drop a line in the comments below.

PKGLauncher is an optional Add-on for webMAN MOD Plugin for PS3 Custom Firmware User's

  • PKG/ROMLauncher
Given the fact that the emulators may have different names due the different versions of RetroArch, I think it will be necessary to update the source code of PKGLAUNCH to make it test if the emulator SELF exists with one of their different names. Also I think recently RetroArch include more emulators cores. Not sure if these new cores work or not.

    UPDATE:
I've attached a test build of PKG/ROM Launcher with support for cores from RetroArch 1.7.3 and 1.7.1 Extended.Version.

This is the new list of paths supported by the test build of PKGLAUNCH.

I REALLY enjoy this add-on tbh. One nitpick is i'd prefer it to sort by folder or something so i don't have a GINORMOUS list to scroll through.

This is after a fresh install, have not tweaked anything yet.

EDIT: I noticed i said "safe" instead of "safer" and adjusted the CC and the first comment to include that information lol.

I use platform playlists, if this implemented existing retroarch playlists it would be perfect. This would also allow it to use the directory/location from the playlists and not be limited to a preset rom directory.

This add-on was originally designed to quickly mount a small set of games (e.g. the ones that the user really play), not to display huge collections of roms for different consoles. For that you have RetroArch.

To make separate lists in sub-folders is not impossible, but requires a lot of changes in webMAN MOD.

If someone is interested in implement the feature, here is the link to the source code:

I am unaware of this software?

Sorry I don't have permission to post links.

Retroarch guide to using playlists is here:
docs_libretro_com/guides/roms-playlists-thumbnails/

I use this powershell script to create platform specific playlists based on the folder contents rather than verification of specific "good" roms so it doesn't exclude any roms just because they aren't verified:
www_reddit_com/r/RetroArch/comments/43dj1n/playlist_creator_for_retroarch_on_windows/

you can generate playlist on PC then do find and replace in text editor to convert playlist to something that will work on PS3. e.g. I replace X:\ROMS with /dev_hdd0/ROMS

totally awesome.... ty :)

pay close attention to what characters aren't supported though, for some games you will need to adjust either the playlist entry or the rom filename. I haven't used it in a while but from memory you can use underscore '_' in place of disallowed characters and it will link the rom file correctly.

just try generate a playlist with 100 sample roms first or something to figure out what you need to do before you take on a full set. It can be a little tedious.

I remember having to ftp replacement playlists many times until I got them all working and it was mostly just the boxarts that were the issue.

EDIT: also if you haven't used playlists before you have to go to the playlists in the settings tab and specify the core to use for each playlist.

EDIT

I deleted the PKG Launcher / ROM, RETROARCH and All webman configs files

and reinstalled them again

Now the option to scan roms is back (it doesnt show without having pkg launcher installed and took me some reboots to show it even after installing it)

The Roms mounts but the PKG LAUNCHER kicks me back to xmb.

They used to work in previous versions (Dunno if its webman or retroarch, cuz i updated my cfw, plugins and roms)

Running them inside the RetroArch it works
