PS3 PS3 Games Manager v 0.42a: Windows, Mac OSX & Linux Support using VirtualBox (Noob Friendly Setup)

While we have seen some impressive development and updates with PS3 Game Manager by developer @francesco2013, many user's did not meet the requirements to run this feature packed Game Manager. However, this update brings this release to a much larger audience and takes out all the guess work for someone not who is not knowledgeable with Linux. Version 0.42a comes in a ready to use OPA format that can be loaded with Virtualbox on platforms such as Windows, Mac or Linux. The developer has made the configuration very noob friendly. Checkout the details and also the Video Tutorial where the developer walks you step by step through this easy process.

  • PS3 Games Manager VirtualBox OVA version 0.42a

I have just finished to release the version 0.42a that comes in an OVA format ready to be used in VirtualBox on any platform (Windows, Linux, Mac).

There are no configuration files to edit and no Linux commands to issue from the console like in the previous editions, making it usable by every user with no IT skills.

The only configuration the user will need to do is managed by a simple script (ps3-setup) that with a series of easy questions allows the user to setup what is needed to adapt PS3 Games Manager to its network.

    In specific the script configures:
    • Ps3 Games Manager network settings (IP, Gateway, DNS).
    • Playstation 3 IP Address (the scripts checks if the PS3 is ONLINE and verifies if webMAN is running).
    • Automatic Mounting of Windows and Linux Network Shares containing the game backups ISOs files. It validates the user's input only when it verifies the share is correctly setup to be used by webMAN, PS3NetSrv and PS3 Games Manager.
    • USB Game Data Enforcing (when enabled It makes sure no game will be launched without Game Data Enabled)

The whole installation and configuration is done in less then 10 minutes by a totally inexperienced user :)

I have published a video on Youtube video (see next tab) the explains in details the few very very easy steps needed to make it run.

  • PS3-Manager 0.42a
    • Since this version PS3 Games Manager runs on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux using VirtualBox !
    • Extremely simplified setup: No config files to edit, no Linux skills required at all. Up and running in 10 minutes!
    • Overall improvements and big performance boost.

  • REQUIREMENTS
    • VirtualBox installed on Linux, Mac or Windows.
    • Network share folder containing the PS3 ISO files.
    • PS3 modded with CFW and Webman 1.43.33+ installed.
    • PS3 accessible via the internal network.
    • A lot of joy of playing

It was just an honest question whether he was planning it or not for the reasons above, chill man.
LMFAO.
I don't need to chill whatsoever because I already am pretty cool. You are very sensitive and you assume much because I was simply encouraging both the idea & you.
You could not have known but you are not the only one or the first who proposed this idea.
We have already talked about this you see..
Francesco will have got the joke & it's all that matters..

francesco2013 can you please upload 0.42 some a .zip file like you do with 0.41
Hey Assassins do you mean the 0.42a with its code ? Apart from the ps3-setup script that I wrote and some little improvements in the ps3-services it is the same code of 0.41a.

Or you want the .ova 0.42a for VirtualBox available to be downloaded as a zip file ? Is That what you mean ?

P.S. I am working on writing the support for the PS3ISO directory scanning and add it to the code on a 0.42b release.

As I am also a Linux user and would like the update without the VB bloat
Show off...!! [emoji3]

If you have VB installed already you could just copy the files from the machine to the host..
Then tweak as required.
There are very few changed files as francesco2013 mentioned earlier anyway...

With 0.42b is it possible for you to release both a Linux version (plain) and the VB version?

Of course I will release both bitsbubba :) Guys you have to bear in mind that I am working and I have a kid I do my best but my free time it is limited. I will release both the version VB and Linux plain as you called it I just need time.

I will like you upload the new one WITHOUT .ova. But the files in .zip

Guys I have been assigned to a new important project at work and I wont have time to develop a Windows version.

The very good news is that I made a very detailed stress test of PS3 Games Manager running in VirtualBox on a I3-2100 processor 3.10 ghz.

It never takes more than 60 megabytes of ram and consumes barely 2% of the CPU.

The further developments will be only through an OVA edition for VirtualBox.

I hope I wont disappoint anybody the app works smoothly and it is very very light.

@Assassins

Within a couple of days I will release the 0.42b OVA that will include the sub-directories scanning feature as you requested

@francesco2013

Good luck with your new work assignment. [emoji6]

We were advising you to release a Windows version only in order for PS3 Games Manager to get more users.

I doubt there will be any disappointment among advanced users who can already use your release anyway...

As for the stress tests, am not sure that used system resources were ever a problem....

most people won't use virtual box, they are expecting standalone windows application and you will also get more users as bguerville said.

I am then sorry for them. As I won't have definitely time for making a Windows standalone version, due to a new professional assignment, and since the Linux version 0.41a standalone and the 0.42a OVA for VirtualBox are working fine I believe, humbly, I have done my contribution to the scene.

IMHO using VirtualBox is the most comfortable solution for both the users, that are finding everything already in place with almost 0 configuration needed, and for me having only one code to work on.

There would be also the interesting (IMHO) chance for the users to learn something new then just Windows and expand a bit their horizons.

Cool. Am glad you welcome it!

For the rest, no need to thank me, anybody giving some of their free time & skills to the community is worthy of praises to begin with.
You have provided a very nice alternative to existing backup managing solutions. Nice & clean efficient code.
Running on Linux & possibly on Windows with a little work.
What's not to like? [emoji6]
