Huge news for nonCFW compatible PS3 Models (SuperSlims and late Slim Models) as anonymous developer's have dropped a huge bombshell with the release of PS3HEN. Just recently we seen the release of HFW (Hybrid Firmware) for the PS3, proving once again that the development scene is still alive and kicking to bring a new window of exploration to 4.84 by bringing back a patched webkit (from 4.82) in a rather clever approach. Which restored the PS3Xploit Tools for 4.84 for both Custom Firmware Compatible Models (for CFW installs) and for nonCFW models that utilized the less powerful etHANel (aka HAN) exploit that with today's news will be an obsolete hack with the emergence of the PlayStation3 first HEN or otherwise known as a Homebrew ENabler. So, yes that means SuperSlim Console's and late Slims PS3 Models (aka nonCFW models) can now FINALLY enjoy PS3 Homebrew at last, but that is not all this PS3HEN release brings to the table. As there is a number of CFW patches / features that come along for the ride as well, while not on quite par with CFW functionality completely it does provide a number of functions that is very exciting and very close to a CFW experience (especially with homebrew support)..Some additional features include things like Boot-Plugin Support, BDISO Support, Cinavia patches are just a few of the features/patches you can see outlined in the release notes:

  What is HEN?:
  
  • HEN stands for Homebrew ENabler. it also consists of many more new functions relatively close to a Custom Firmware (CFW)
  
  How does it work?:

  • Install HAN Enabler. Copy PS3HEN.BIN, HENTAI.pkg and stackframe.bin(READ:rename) to /dev_usb000 and run the HTML.
  • Once done, go to Package manager and install the HENTAI.pkg and reboot console
  • From now on to enable HEN simply use usb000 stackframe.bin and PS3HEN.BIN and run html...HEN ENABLED!

  • Then use HAN Installer to get Package Manger in XMB Game colmun

  • Install the HENTAI PKG via Package Manager on the XMB

  • Now HEN is Enabled launch your chosen homebrew and run if it give you 80010017 then re use HEN Enabler cause it didn't activate properly

  A.) (via habib) So, the limitations of hen
  
  1.resigning is needed of homebrews!
  2.some homebrews need updates to support(READ:Readme)
  3.erk dumper or tools such as IDPSet are not possible
  4.ps3 iso are not possible
  5.(could be fixed with some reversing) NPDRM paid licenses won't work if not signed with HAN key(tools such as reactpsn need update or fix in hen needed)
  6.(BUG)since NPDRM paid licenses won't work when HEN enabled(thus HAN with it), original paid content won't work without resign or when hen enabled
  7.its just not permenant like CFW​

I tried it, but everytime i click on the last entry in the recovery mode menu my ps3 freezes.....and when i restore something or reset it to factory settings( i hope its called factory setting, my ps3 is in german) it loads and nothing happened....

Well then, I don't know what to tell you. I've read some cases of PS3 freezing on recovery though, check on google for more infos

 

My game get stuck at enabling hen each time i run the offline hen enabler

 

Sadly like the few other posters towards the end here, getting the same issue. Had everything installed fine. I can enable HAN, but when I use the offline HEN enabler, without usb...get a freeze every enable, that isn't too much of an issue, just have to remember USB but I am also no longer having luck with Multiman, Irisman, and ManagunZ anymore, keep getting BLACK SCREEN on load and have to hard reset every time and let the PS3 fix corruption.

Also if I do the online HEN enabler with or without the usb, it freezes every time on my unit. I did see Multiman a few times yesterday load but no longer happening for me, just that famous black screen.

I have reinstalled everything a few times with recovery done, still come to this same issue?

 

I have noticed that activating "hen hdd offline" makes use of the 2 bin files in the usb.

this is not correct!

the recommended HDD offline package reads those 2 files from HDD, hence its name

same applies to AIO HDD offline and standard HDD offline package included with 1.0.2 zip

it reads boot_plugins_nocobra.txt from usb000 if you need to load plugins

other AIO packages are also available to use boot_plugins_nocobra.txt from /dev_hdd0/hen/

 

@esc0rtd3w actually thank you for reposting this, I know we must be giving you guys a huge headache but switching to that HDD vs the USB one I been toying with, that I think resolved my issues. Not sure why I was skipping over the RECOMMENDED point out in the original post by you but I am thick headed I guess lol. Thanks again, that saved my situation I believe

 

Ok now i tried artemis it open up i hear the single beep but then theres no notification pop up to attach in game..is it plugin related?..do i have to edit the boot_plugins_nocobra.txt??..tried to look at the folder for the plugin in the hdd but i only see .sprx for the webftp(guessing its for webman maybe?) do i have to manualy put the plugin for artemis in that folder??..any opinions/help??..thank you very much..

Yeah I enabled hen and when webman loaded I went on my laptop and went to ps3ip/delete.ps3?uninstall Then I used the webman pkg installer and then had to restart my console a second time after it finished.

 

Hello, I am fairly new to this, but running super slim with HEN and everything works up until the point at which I try to run games copied directly from my disk to HDD with Multiman or any other homebrew and EVERY game gets a trophy related error. I have seen many possible fixes but nothing has worked so far, and most of the fixes I have seen involve deleting my entire HDD which id rather not do unless it is my only option. Any ideas? I have tried 5 copied from disc games so far and they all give a different version of a trophy error.

 

Is it possible to install or play games on my ps3 directly via an external drive??

@esc0rtd3w ..Yes, .The problem comes when starting hen offline. Sometimes the ps3 freezes. But I suppose that it is a problem in general that not only happens to me. On the other hand I've noticed that my pendrive/usb turns on when I'm active hen offline ... That caught my attention

If you're enabling HEN and also connecting to PSN, you'll get higher chances to get your account or system getting banned.

I'm had been accidentally connecting to PSN after installing HEN, but gladly HEN was not enabled during login activity.

My ps3 get stuck when I tried enable hen offline

 

It works on my PS3 SuperSlim, But I have some issues, I keep getting random black screen whenever I lunch MultiMan, IrisMan, RertoArch, or even homebrew game (UFO Racer), I backed up "beyond two souls" (I have the disc backed it up using MultiMan) and installed on my ps3 hdd everything works ok but sometimes when I exit the game/(any other installed games by hen) and try to open MultiMan or any of the apps mentioned above I get black screen and my ps3 hangs and I have to turn it off ( it work sometimes without getting black screen but eventually I get black screen )
I don't know if this is a common issue or not
My ps3 act the same as yours.

Hen is very new so I hope they fix it soon. Han run very well on my ps3 and i got no problem with it.

I solved my problem now!
Just remove the hdd and put it through an adapter to my pc and format it like it would be my new hdd on windows, then place it back into my ps3 with an usb stick with the ofw 4.84 and installed it, everything works fine now!
