PS3 [UPDATE] Mr. Burns & Smither's Tools (by psykosis): A new tool for ISO Generation + Burn to disc

Since the recent advancement in COBRA CFW (payload) thanks to one of deank additions that made playing games from a backup disc possible saving some HDD space for those wanting to keep your originals in good standing but may not have the space to hold your collection. It was only a matter of time before we started see some tools that would be designed with this new feature in mind and long time friend of psx-place developer psykosis has released Mr. Burns. This simple app is based on makeps3iso by developer estwald (Iris Manager's dev aka Hermes), the toll will convert a folder format (JB folder) to an ISO file and then will call imgburn to then burn your ISO to a disc and playable on Cobra 7.52 +.

  • v0.2
    • Merged Convert and Burn Buttons
    • Cosmetic, added icons, systray icon.
    v0.3
    • updated the page to show new features.
    • I'll probably be working on batch today

  • If you like mr burns, you might like smithers too!
    Feaures
    • Batch conversion
    • custom destination.
    • Burning not implemented as of yet, but will be once I finish the back end for it.

  • Since the best combo currently to use is supposed to be estwalds latest makeps3iso (link provided by sandugas) and imageburn. I put together this small app to make it a little easier...
    Current: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8y84TwvbbBHdEozWEI0MFRDOTg

    Mr. Burns
    • Very small app, just a front end for makeps3iso
    • can add more features at a later time.
    • Currently separated the convert/burn process until a bug is worked out. :)
    • Merged convert/burn process in 0.2
    • Added icons, sounds to 0.3
    • Added drag and drop folders to 0.3
    • Added minor error correction (checks for ps3_game folder)
    • Sounds are located in appfolder\tools\sounds and can be deleted without issue
    • It is required to have imgburn installed on default location (will work with 32 or 64 bit locations)
    • Now shows source directory on window as of 0.3
    Conducted Test on:
    • On Rebug 4.81.2 w/ cobra 7.52 via 2.0.13 toolbox

  • Update to the latest Mr. Smithers!!!
I removed the deploy extension as suggested
I added an additional form "Patches" that can do basically md5 right now, but more later
I added an option to use genps3iso if you choose to instead of makeps3iso
I changed how the iso files are named, to exactly as the folder is named
I cleaned up a bunch of code not being used (msgbox type debug stuff)
Drag and drop functionality added for both folder and iso
I may merge "Patches" into "Mr. Smithers application at some point soon to reduce size
More information available from github as well :)
now with "patches", genps3iso 2.0 option, and more!

  • Added new features, and improved interface a little. removed unused code.

Why is there an imcompatibility between makeps3iso and genps3iso (since makeps3iso is from IrisMan)?

For those interested in not only batch conversion, but burning as well, I have updated Mr. Smithers.
I think the new additions will be much appreciated. I will look back into patching iso files on the next build of smithers, and perhaps mr burns if I can implement it properly :)

Mr smithers does not have drag and drop functionality as of yet, but he will remember your choices on your next launch :)

ERPADERP!!! I forgot the link!! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8y84TwvbbBHdEdWbHh5RmljaW8?usp=sharing

Why is there an imcompatibility between makeps3iso and genps3iso (since makeps3iso is from IrisMan)?

makeps3iso is open source, i don't believe genps3iso is. but makeps3iso can be improved upon by people far more knowledgeable than me. I can just program around problematic games and make them use genps3iso instead if we aren't able to solve with makeps3iso :)

I hope that helps, but i'm sure someone has a much better answer than myself :)

To make an accurate list of problematic games is needed to specify the exact TITLE_ID (like BCUS12345 or whatever), and also to try to provide an IRD file that matches the game and passes satisfactory the IRD check of the game files you used

The IRD is the only way for other users to know if the game files they are burning are exactlly the same than other user
With the purpose of verifying if is really a bug of the app... or a "bad file" from the user that reported the problem
You know... when downloading the files from internet, when applying EBOOT.BIN "fixes" or other game patches... all that unnofficial game files could be problematic
Is needed to be sure that the files of the game are all "officials" before labeling the game as "problematic"

The IRD files you can found in databases could not be correct though, but is the best way we have
The other way is if eventually appears 2 different users that has the exact same original bluray and they dumps the files from it, then makes a hash check of all files and then compares the hashes (this is what an IRD check does, is the same but manually)... and then when burning the games to disc with mr. burns if the reult is both users fails then yes, we can label that game as problematic, if that happens then is probably something not implemented in makeps3iso
But this is not going to happen very often, 2 different users with the exact same original disc that could test... not much probable

Additionally, a bit more info could help too, like mentioning the disc media brand, recorder model, recording speed, etc...

Anyway, just to be picky we can start making a list with the 2 games you mentioned:
uncharted 2, god of war 3 version rip 23gb

Keep a record of them and wait to see if other people tryed to burn them and posts here the results

Hy psykosis, good work with this tools :)
I wish to give you a tip. You should remove the .deploy extension for the files you publish. With the deploy extension they can't be launched. The extension can be disabled from Visual Studio from Project - Properties of "name of the project" - publish - options - distribution - here you will find the checkbox to disable :)

Turtles - Mutants in Manhattan doesn't work for me. It's with an original EBOOT.bin.
Gives black screen, you can press X on XMB but returns to the XMB afterwards.

MAYBE it's because of the CDFS filesystem instead of UDF (I figured out later) because CDBURNERXP burned in CDFS format. Later discs that were burned with IMGBURN worked. However, the Uncharted 3 disc that I have is PS3VOLUME named and does not work. Probably because it was created with Imgburn and not with genps3iso. However, it's unclear why.

There is no such thing like CDFS. ;) It's a way how Windows name optical disc filesystems (and this is wrong like many things in this family OS's ;]).

What's You have in mind is ISO9660+UDF which is valid for all Sony discs (except CD).
And I doubt because applications which burning disc images doesn't disassembling them.

There is always problems with warez releases because "authors" doesn't care about standards and preservation purposes.

The Uncharted Disc was retail. The Turtles one was not but that should not matter as I have other games that were non retail that function fine via genps3iso.

Oh and there is no database to check for MD5 eboot.bin integrity. So I can't see if my EBOOT is legit. Maybe the release is a 1:1 copy after all...

I'm not sure about that but if game have a patch, and You installed a patch (download it on PC and install it like any other homebrew), EBOOT will be (?) launched from game dir instead from disc. Worth try.

Yeah I tried but Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is fairly new so there are no updates (yet).
@deank suggested this in the Cobra topic as well.

I've been creating isos in genps3iso 2.0 and makeiso programs. I see an inconsistency one game works in one in another not

Does anyone know why this happens?

I've been trying to figure this out myself. I included in the latest version a checkbox to use genps3iso 2.0 instead of makeps3iso (the setting does not stick, default is makeps3iso currently)
gen20.exe can be replaced with a higher version of genps3iso renamed to gen20.exe if need be.

To kind of explain what's going on in these apps:
makeps3iso/genps3iso is solely responsible for converting to iso, the gui only makes it easier than having to type it all out in command line
makeps3iso makes smaller iso files than genps3iso. It will also accept a folder output and name file itself or take a specific iso file output, whereas genps3iso requires a specific filename.
When makeps3iso renames a title it does remove []'s from the file, and rearranges the blus/bles/etc id and the title comparitively to the actual folder name.
I know one was written for cobrausb and another for mamba. now both are almost identical. :)
imgburn only handles burning. It also is called via command line.
Information always helps :)

BCES01141-[Ratchet Clank All 4 One] not working psgen 2.0 or makeps3iso
Not sure about this one, but i played other 4 ratched and clank games in cfw 4.46 or so... with iris v2.93 by estwald: "tools of destruction", "quest for booty", "a crack in time", and "into the nexus"
All them converted to iso with makeps3iso (after IRD verifyed) and working perfect

Iirc "All 4 one" was released about the same time the games i mentioned, so most probably uses the same game engine, same packaging formats, etc... should be similar built... so "all 4 one" should work too

P.S.
"All 4 one" is focused in multiplayer btw... online the game sucks a bit, and offline sucks a lot, it was a experiment from this game company that went wrong
"A crack in time" is great though, probably one of the best platform games i played ever. Doctor nefarious ftw muahhhh ha ha ha ahhaha ahahh Zzzz...

As I verify IRD ?
Sorry, could not understand if you did verify IRD or not
But by looking at here it seems there are 2 posible IRD's for it

https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/605254-ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one/data

The first one is the original euro release, and the second seems to be another euro re-release. Both could be valid IRD's so use them to validate your game files and report back your results
