PS3 [Update v1.05] sMAN vv1.02 : New "Setup" Option in side-menu of new UI by deank

If you have not heard of sMAN already. its a new plugin from legendary developer deank. sMAN combines webMAN (vanilla) and recently developed sLaunch feature (that was a separate plugin complementing webMAN). So what is the difference between webMAN & sMAN, sMAN provides a UI experiance for changing games on the XMB, as seen in the ScreenShot provided directly from the XMB you will be greeted with this new way to mount a game. Prefer the original way? Then deank still has you covered with his original webMAN plugin as well. This update provides a new "Setup" option in the side menu and also completely does away with the "My Games" entry on the XMB and to launch the sMAN (slaunch feature) simple hold the START button on your dualshock controller to launch this new UI from the XMB. See full details in deank's release quote

Update: Deank also released a quick update to version 1.02 offering a few improvements/fixes outlined. Update 2: deank is on fire releasing another update to sMAN with the release of v1.05, note this version changes the START button to L1/R1 to launch the sluanch feature on the XMB, see all changes in the changelogs provided.

sman.jpg

  • sMAN (webMAN + sLaunch)

    sMAN 1.01 (2/192017)
    • Added "Setup" option in side-menu
    • Removed xml generation - no need for custom category_game.xml anymore
    • Removed xai_plugin/idle_plugin usage
    • Added x2 upscale for small images/covers (w/h < 336)
    • Added indication of current group mode (PS3 1 / xxx) under title name/path
    • Removed "My Games" entry from XMB - hold [START] to launch sMAN (Note: changed to R2/L2 in v1.05 see below)
    Update(1) - sMAN v1.02 (2/19/2017)
    • Changed netiso/rawseciso implementation (external) - use plugin slot #0
    • Fixed crash when trying to load another PS1 title after one is played
    Update(2) - sMAN v1.05 (2/19/2017)
    • Use [L2+R2] to start sMAN
    • The sprx is bigger (but actually uses less memory) because it contains some glued resources
    • It will use standard PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3/Blu-ray/DVD icons when there is no proper cover/image available
    • This version of the plugin must be named sman.sprx and loaded from (in this exact order):
      • /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx or
      • /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx or
      • /dev_flash/vsh/module/sman.sprx
      • otherwise it won't work. The first match of these three will be loaded.
sMAN resource files are located in /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/res folder. There are six icons, background and ntfs/net external plugins. You can play with them until the next reboot when they will be restored to defaults.
NB: Renaming it to webftp_server.sprx and other stupid things are not supported. :)
Thanks to @bguerville for his help about loading xmb plugins: http://www.psx-place.com/......

boot_plugins.txt, not boot.txt.

Things are progressing nicely!

What are your thoughts on making it scroll to the next page when you press left or right on the games on the edge of the screen, rather than going to the top or bottom row first, but staying on whatever row you scrolled from? (kinda like how the on screen keyboard works, if you get what I mean)

Seems like it would make it feel a bit nicer for scrolling around, although I get that it's more of a personal preference either way.

Im going to assume you mean boot_plugins.txt not boot.txt, but webman notifcation on startup or sman?

Cant run both simultaneously, so something may be off if it says webman still.

May have to manually delete webman from dev_flash if thats the case...whats the einstein plugin?

A screenshot of where you have your files and boot_plugins.txt contents may help clarify things...

If there are no games at all, when I execute sMAN it closes, refreshes and goes to setup page. So far so good (I think this is by design), but sometimes it hangs on refreshing state and the setup page is blank, just 'http://127.0.0.1/setup.ps3' duplicated on the top including the clock icon. If I push circle sMAN asks if I want to exit and no problem. But twice, I had to make a force shutdown because it hanged completely, I can't tell for sure why/when this happened.

Sometimes if I refresh via web browser while sMAN showing the game list it hangs and I have to do a force shutdown. I can't reproduce this one, sorry, this happend to me when I was updating some covers pusing files through FTP.

sMAN loads when the PS3 force you to check the hard drive after an incorrect shutdown. Is this desired?

I'm on Habib's 4.81 v1.02, latest multiMAN, no other plugins/homebrews.

Sadly I can't make it crash/freeze while scanning. I'm using 2 external usb hdds (1 ntfs and 1 fat) + scanning network folder for games + internal hdd with ps1/ps3/bd/dvd titles.

I don't have a lot of titles (about 60) and it completes fairly quick (less than a minute).

Hopefully it will crash and I'll catch it, but until then I don't know what to do.

Did you get the latest sman.sprx?

@deank Sorry, I'm reporting this issues with yesterday's changes. I downloaded latest sman now but I have to wait to get home to test it. I will try to reproduce what I did yesterday and report the results.

What about this: "sMAN loads when the PS3 force you to check the hard drive after an incorrect shutdown. Is this desired?"

The only way not to load it is when you "Rebuild database" - then cobra deletes boot_plugins.txt. It doesn't interfere with the rebuild process when startup scan is disabled.

BTW, I forgot to tell that sometimes, when 'sMAN loaded' popup appears, then press combo button trying to go to the titles screen, it doesn't do anything, I have to press circle, then L2+R2 to get to that screen.

It has happened to me too. It's as if sMAN invisibly loads, hangs, and somehow then you press circle to exit. I was able to reproduce this issue by repeatingly starting and exiting sMAN very quickly.

It seems to be a lot better at catching itself after last nights edits.

I know in previous versions for example, opening sman while already on the ps3 browser, then going to setup (making it want to open the browser again) would freeze the ps3 completely more often than not.

Tried opening and closing it quickly and other weird things last night trying to catch it out, and at worst it stalled for a few seconds, then caught up and came good again. :)

Yes, i get a webman and a sman v6 or something. Disabled with toolbox. But havent been home yet. Einstiens plugin is for rtm.

Ahh ok, yeah, may have to look into why webman is still loading.. Can't use both simultaneously as they are based off the same code.

May have to manually delete /dev_flash/vsh/module/webftp_server.sprx

PSone would be just like a PSX (the DVR PS2). In the sense that are not PLATFORMS, but rather models.

PlayStation
PlayStation 2
PlayStation 3
PlayStation 4

Then they all have acronyms:
PlayStation (PSX not PS1)
PlayStation 2 (PS2)
PlayStation 3 (PS3)
PlayStation 4 (PS4)

But you would not call something that is first PS1 (not at that time). it was not until we seen the PS2 that we started to use PS1 (PSone). During the reign of the orginal playstion it was most often times refereed to as the PSX

So the acronym for the PlayStation (before the PS2) was always the PSX..
PSX is platform.

The PSX model is a piece of hardware (PS2), so there is a difference and the two should not get confused or compared, because if you are searching for a PSX game you will always find a original playstation game, because there was no PS2 DVR games created.
I understand that and i took it in consideration before deciding, but the difference is you are looking at it from an "unnofficial" and "occcidental" point of view

For me an official name is more proper than any other unnoficial name, and this takes me back to the post i wrote before, sony had to deal with this problem and they only had 2 chances... to call it simply "PlayStation" or "PSOne"
The reason why they actually doesnt uses "PlayStation" is because is confusing, not only the name but the logo is also confusing, the best example is to see how are labeled that games in the official PSN store, all are under category "PSOne", they even uses the new logo

Also, is needed to mention that when talking (not written) the name "PS1" and "PSOne" are exactlly the same (is the same sound phonetically)

From our "occidental" point of view we never had much info back at that days about what was a PSX (because it was sold only in japan) but it had a good amount of sales in japan, probably the japaneses that lived that years was very aware of what a PSX was, the console lovers and consoles collectors, and specially the people at sony
Imagine at some point we talk with someone that is or has been working at sony... if we say to him that the first sony console was the PSX he is going to say us that... "you dont know what a PSX is" and we will say "i know, i know, but we call it like that"... and he will reply "doesnt matters how you occidentals calls it because is the owner who gives it a name and in japan everybody knows that the PSX is a derivated from the PS2"

Is the same if you design something and you label it "X" but people calls it "Y"... when they comes to you telling something about your "Y" you are going to tell them that this is not the name... eventually if this repeats lot of times you will become annoyed

--------
Unnofficially for the scene is needed a compromise, im well aware about it because wiki, in wiki happens lot of times that something is called unnofficially with a name (because at that point we didnt knew the official name) but eventually the official name is found, so is needed to change the names in wiki
For wiki that kind of changes sucks because people posts links to wiki in forums (if we rename pages we break links from forums), also is bad for internet search engines, and for the people that are used to the unnofficial names that maybe was used lot of time before
But this is when is applyed the sentence "better late than never"
Being strictlly is not posible to use the name "PSX" incorrectlly in wiki, should be considered a mistake

So as the compromise, taking in consideration what i said about that an official name has preference over any unnofficial name... sony used "PlayStation" and "PSOne" for marketing purposes... there are only those 2 official options
But in internal codenames they uses "PS1", it can be seen in lot of places of the PS3 firmware, as example in the emulators (ps1_emu.self, ps1_netemu.self, ps1_newemu.self)
So sony doesnt have any problem in using the name "PS1", they are fine with it. For them the first sony console is a "PS1" (a "playstation one" phonetically). The only problem they have is they doesnt have a logo with the letters "PS1" :)

Edit:
Also, nowadays the name "PlayStation" and the logo http://logok.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Playstation-logo-colour-880x660.png doesnt represents a platform
Represents one of the departments of sony that build consoles (includes all sony consoles)
All sony consoles has that name and that logo printed in them

So I replaced webMAN in dev_flash with sMAN the latest 1.6n and checked my boot_plugins.txt to ensure psnpatch was on there and it is as well as in my dev_hdd0:/plugins folder but the normal disable combo I use R2+Triangle don't work I have to manually disable. Do I need to do the R3/L3/R2 combo to totally unload? I like keeping FTP access so I never fully unload. Anyone else have this issue?

@deank added a name check for sman in dev_flash to ensure it won't work when it's named as Something else like webftp_server but sman.sprx only.

When you said "replace" I think that's what you did

Here's the quote from the first post
