XMB Manager Plus mod 0.23.000-mod by aldostools for COBRA!

This is a fork of the official XMBM+ that I originally developed for personal use on 3.55 Kmeaw.
Now I adapted the category_games.xml to work with webMAN + XMB Manager Plus on COBRA 7.0

Easy install on Cobra 7: (may not contain latest version of XMBM+)

or

Manual installation
1. Install a Cobra CFW. - (XMBM+ can be used also on non-Cobra CFW.)
2. Install multiMAN 04.66.08 (or later if available) - http://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=24
3. Launch multiMAN, go to Settings column and enable the option "Write access to dev_flash" (it's the 2nd option from bottom)
4. Go to multiMAN's mmOS (File Manager) pressing [Select] + [Start] buttons
5. Copy webftp_server.sprx (version 1.41.x) to the root of /dev_hdd0/

Official version of webMAN-MOD by M@tsumoto and aldostools:
https://github.com/aldostools/webMAN-MOD

Use PRX Loader by u$er to launch webMAN manually on non-Cobra CFW:
http://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=243
(use new_core from Estwald to auto-start PRX Loader on system boot)

Latest webMAN MOD versions are available here:
http://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=257

Latest official versions are always here:

6. Copy the included boot_plugins.txt to the root of /dev_hdd0/
7. Copy the included category_game.xml to /dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/ (do not edit this file unless you know what you're doing)
8. Reboot.
9. Install the included xmbmanplus_hdd.pkg
10. Enjoy XMBM+ on COBRA 7.0!
NOTE: For support of /PS3ISO, /PSXISO, /DVDISO and /BDISO content on external drives with NTFS file system, install and execute prepNTFS.pkg

You have to use prepNTFS if you add new content to your NTFS formatted USB HDDs.
Do not forget to use [Refresh XML] / [Refresh HTML] to refresh webMAN's data.

How to update XMB Manager Plus (mod)
1. Click the About option in XMB Manager Plus mod for the update option
2. If there is an update, you will be prompted to download the file (Save in the downloaded pkg in the root of the USB drive)
3. Install the downloaded pkg from Install Package Files
4. Refresh XMB launching any application (eg. BD Reset) and returning to XMB.

Thanks to:
  • DeanK for the awesome webftp_server.sprx
  • COBRA's lead developer for the release of the unofficial Cobra 7.0
  • user for PRX LOADER
  • Team XMBM+: andreus(coding), bitsbubba(coding, themes), DeViL303(coding, POC/WIP) ps3Hen (coding, 4.00 port), aldostools(coding), CloneD(themes), Berion(logos)
  • dreamcat4 for the suggested .xml method and exofreak for his POC release of launch games through XMB using webMAN.

Can Estwald's "Fix Cobra hashes" feature in SEN be used with any changes made to vsh.self or does it only work for SEN related modifications?
For testing purposes recompiling Cobra often can be cumbersome....

What a what? [MENTION=76]Evilnat[/MENTION] made SEN, not estwald

And tbh I haven't tested SEN long time ago so I don't know

I meant Evilnat of course.
3 in the morning, am starting to mix names up.
Oh dear, time to go to bed I think.

Ok well, I suppose I will give this SEN feature a try & find out. It would be handy if it worked.

Btw the fake data owner fix seems to be working with my recompiled cobra, more testing is needed. Will report once fully tested.

move it to tv/video and then check it in dex to confirm whether it's game_tool2 or not
Ok. XMBM+ is now accessible in DEX menu mode without XMB problems. ☺
It works without glitches when using category_video.xml instead of category_game_tool2.xml.

Just keep the original category_game.xml and category_game_tool2.xml from the CFW release & replace only the category_video.xml.
You can use multiMAN to open the zip & install the xml file.

https://mega.nz/#!6Y5nmYgY!6Md_i-RrP_Goc9ZR4ZBVW9gT4XavKj_yoARgCZ8Ff_I

At the moment XMBM+ will be accessible in the Game column when in CEX menu mode & in the Video column when in DEX menu mode.

It's possible to keep it in the Video column in both modes but the original category_game.xml needs to be edited & I don't really see the point.

Is it safe to assume that the problem comes from duplicated entries in category_game_tool2.xml?

As a test you can try to use category_game_tool2.xml from ofw and adding to it only XMBM+
See if this solves the problem

The point of this test is to disable the embedded rebug package manager used in rebug firmwares (XMBM+ contains a derivated of it so you still will be able to install packages)
It can be disabled too by commenting out one of the querys that loads the custom segment of rebug package manager (custom code in rebug xml is always added at bottom of the file, no need to erase but to disable is needed to remove the query responsible of loading that custom segment)... but as said... is easyer to start with the official file and add to it only XMBM+

Sure, I can do that [MENTION=872]sandungas[/MENTION].
Could anyone post category_game_tool2.xml from OFW 4.78?
No access to my PC today & there's no unpacking tools on Android...

Also try [MENTION=872]sandungas[/MENTION]'s Rebug pkg manager, he optimized it really well though I never got to use his due to app_home redirection issue with multiMAN's package installer.

Maybe his won't have issues.

Another lead to follow, thanks [MENTION=29]Joonie[/MENTION] for the suggestion. I know you expressed interest in getting this XMBM+ issue fixed. Especially as [MENTION=6]bitsbubba[/MENTION] is working on an update..
Have been busy with this wMM web commands in-game issue but I will make time to have a chat with [MENTION=872]sandungas[/MENTION] over this.
One more thing to add to my task list.
Jeez that list is growing all the time...

Btw I assume you guys already looked at the app_home redirection issue & could not find a workaround?

Ill have a look cheers.

To get a bit of xml/pup practice Ive been having a play around with Rebug 4.78.1 Rex and XMBM+MOD, I thought it would be cool to have a PUP file that installed with XMBM+MOD built in instead of rebugs package manager(ie no packages to install and run or hdd data etc). And also I replaced that sprx file so it says "Delete" instead of "Unlink".

There wasn't enough room on dev_flash for the hdd files (inc icons) but I compressed some of the Netflix sign up pictures and gained an extra couple of MB, No one would really notice anyway. I have all the XMBM+ icons moved to the explore/icon folder where the rest of the FW's icons go, and all the other links changed from hdd to dev_flash xmb folder , It seems to work well , no bugs so far, I think the error must have been in the xml, like you say , duplicate keys maybe. I started with the fresh OFW tool2 xml. I tried to get the spinning icon bug to show up but couldn't, what do I need to do exactly? just have it set to DEX and bring up XMB ingame?
I did that and seems fine anyway.

If anyone wants to have a look at the modded pup let me know, I can PM a link or post it here if its ok..

[MENTION=29]Joonie[/MENTION] I see how Team Rebug included an option in the latest toolbox to install CFW Settings, it would be cool to see an option for adding XMBM+ to dev_flash built into the toolbox too, or switching it on and off. should be do-able, my pup even came a little smaller than the original Rebug even though I added 1.8mb approx.

I deleted all the Netflix sign up crap but ICON0.PNG to gain some room and was about 2mb. I still haven't noticed them gone and I tried looking for them. Was some other stuff I managed to do to make more room if you need it.

and [MENTION=22544]DeViL303[/MENTION] if you do manage to get XMBM= working upon install of a PUP let me know. I would be curious as to how you did this as I haven't had much luck doing such. Finally have Rebug PKG manager and XMBM+ co-existing in Game & Video categories as well as perfect CEX and & DEX functions. Just need to find the error I have while in Rebug retail CEX QA mode as my app_home is now app_home/PS3_GAME for some odd reason.

Oh its working fine. I basically replaced all mentions of dev_hdd with dev_flash.

EDIT: ok not quite fine. I hadn't got webman enabled. cant get it to show up unless retail XMB is on, Im not sure how exactly rebug toolbox interacts with the game xmls when it enables/disables webman as I know nothing about webman?

Here is the Rebug 4.78.1 REXincXMBM+Mod PUP , on install its working fine with XMBM+ showing and all working from dev_flash. Just not sure where I messed up webman, it was probably by using the fresh xmls, Ill have a look later.

Here is just the explore folder from the modded version:
https://mega.nz/#!zs5zSJbL!4laI0ACyd0trqUbknsvIaA5rGMt-TWsJ87_Av2VRBGM

You can test this on your xmb by deleting your own explore folder and replacing itwith this one. (at your own risk)

I never understood exactlly what happens with the app_home duplication, mostlly because i dont know what multiman is doing
Also, i have not used multiman in years but i remember to see the duplicated .pkg's not much time ago
So well, in resume, im very lost about the app_home problem

About the modification of rebug package manager i made, the purpose was to make the .xml firmware independant
-removed the PSN_big.gim custom image (the additional icon you need to "index" inside explore_plugin.rco for every firmware release, this is a pita imo, not worth it because is just a simple icon and is not much important or informative)
-hardcoded all the custom texts (only english like in old rebug firmwares)
-all code in a independant xml
-dont remember if i made other changes... but overall i prefered to not modify it too much to respect the original

But is not really optimized to be honest, it was mostlly a reordering to make it more simple for you or others cfw devs to include it in any firmware (it should work even in ofw 1.00 up to 9.99 just by modifying the .xml files)

[MENTION=22544]DeViL303[/MENTION]
The best way to reduce the size of your custom files (XMBM+ icons and stuff) is to include them inside explore_plugin_full.rco because the .rco files uses a huge compression the resulting size will be minimal... and with luck there will not be need to modifiy other files to recover space
Take a look at explore_plugin_full.rco from rebug... and compare it with the original from ofw... note how the image PSN_big.gim has been indexed at top of the rcoxml (under imagetree), also the .gim format used... you could copy this method
The same can be done to include webman custom icons btw

[MENTION=7]atreyu187[/MENTION] instead of erasing firmware files... is always better to replace them. XMB does a automatic scale of images when the image given is smaller than the size reserved for it
Taking advantage of this image scale "feature"... the trick is to replace images of any size by others with the same format but a size of 1x1 pixels (or 4x4 pixels... because this is the minimal size allowed for .DXT format sometimes used by the images inside .rco)
This way the console has something to display and will not crash in any case, but the size is minimal

Yeah cheers, I was thinking about inc icons in the rco, might get around to it. I know its best not to modify other files but there are a few background png files that are like 500kb-800kb, what I do is resize to 50% approx, then scale back up, one Netflix background alone saved me 600kb doing that. I didn't realise the ps3 would resize them if they were small, thought it would expect the same size as original.

also could include the webman+ update from [MENTION=6]bitsbubba[/MENTION]s Cobra tools quite easily, icons and xmls are only about 150kb. so much can be included in the FW its great, just wish we could edit the settings category easily to add the ability to switch these mods on and off from there.

Also, i have not used multiman in years but i remember to see the duplicated .pkg's not much time ago

The duplicated items happens because the Package Manager (and Install Package Files) includes multiple queries to show the packages from various devices, including /dev_bdvd and /app_home.

multiMAN/mmCM and most backup managers mount the game folders and the folders with pkg files as /dev_bdvd and as /app_home, causing the pkg to appear listed twice and sometimes 3 times on the XMB.

To reduce the duplicated pkg issue, I modified the Package Manager included in my mod of XMBM+ so /dev_bdvd and /app_home don't appear in the same list of queries.

The unique inconvenience is that sometimes /dev_bdvd and /app_home are mapped to different folders. In that case the user have to select the proper folder, to be able to install the desired pkg.

It was just an idea, probably you thought in it too, actually, because you are loading the icons from game category... you can choose to include them inside explore_category_game.rco
So there are these 2 options... inside explore_plugin_full.rco... or explore_category_game.rco
I think both should work, initially is better to include them inside explore_plugin_full.rco but maybe is a bad idea to increse his size too much (console will not crash even if his size is huge, but maybe there are performance problems)

Btw... im taking a look at the images inside vsh\resource\explore\netflix
Note his filenames... are language dependant ---> Languages - PS3 Developer wiki

*****_02.png for french
*****_03.png for spanish
*****_07.png for portuguese

I think you can delete the language dependant files (keep only english ones, they will be loaded because are the default language when no other language dependant images exists)
In other words... keep only:
ICON0.png
PIC0.png
PIC1.png
PIC2.png

All the others can be deleted safelly
To verify... after deleted go to category settings column, and change language to one of those where netflix images was removed (french, spanish, or portuguese) and netflix should load the english versions
If the english versions loads fine then the trick is working... are only 523KB though

Edit:
Actually... i think you can delete PIC0.png, PIC1.png, and PIC2.png too
The only one that is mandatory for an app is ICON0.png .... and that folder contents are for an app (is weird sony decided to include those netflix images as part of the firmware that way, but is an standard app)

In Links.xml there are links to obsolete sites and at least 3 icons could be removed too.
Code:
tortuga-cove.com  -> tortugacove.png
www.ps-addict.fr -> psaddict.png
www.jailbreakscene.net  -> jailbreakscene.png
www.ludibria.com

Also all the links to dropbox are down.

I see, but then what i dont understand is why the duplicated pkgs happened to me because i never installed a pkg from inside a backup manager (im still in rebug 4.46 lite with iris 2.93)
Or are you telling that is a path relink made when the backup manager boots (even if you dont use any of the backup manager package installer related features the path relink is made) ?
There is some reliable way to reproduce the problem ? (is enought with entering and quitting any BM?)
