XMB Manager Plus mod 0.23.000-mod by aldostools for COBRA!

This is a fork of the official XMBM+ that I originally developed for personal use on 3.55 Kmeaw.
Now I adapted the category_games.xml to work with webMAN + XMB Manager Plus on COBRA 7.0

Easy install on Cobra 7: (may not contain latest version of XMBM+)

or

Manual installation
1. Install a Cobra CFW. - (XMBM+ can be used also on non-Cobra CFW.)
2. Install multiMAN 04.66.08 (or later if available) - http://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=24
3. Launch multiMAN, go to Settings column and enable the option "Write access to dev_flash" (it's the 2nd option from bottom)
4. Go to multiMAN's mmOS (File Manager) pressing [Select] + [Start] buttons
5. Copy webftp_server.sprx (version 1.41.x) to the root of /dev_hdd0/

Official version of webMAN-MOD by M@tsumoto and aldostools:
https://github.com/aldostools/webMAN-MOD

Use PRX Loader by u$er to launch webMAN manually on non-Cobra CFW:
http://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=243
(use new_core from Estwald to auto-start PRX Loader on system boot)

Latest webMAN MOD versions are available here:
http://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=257

Latest official versions are always here:

6. Copy the included boot_plugins.txt to the root of /dev_hdd0/
7. Copy the included category_game.xml to /dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/ (do not edit this file unless you know what you're doing)
8. Reboot.
9. Install the included xmbmanplus_hdd.pkg
10. Enjoy XMBM+ on COBRA 7.0!
NOTE: For support of /PS3ISO, /PSXISO, /DVDISO and /BDISO content on external drives with NTFS file system, install and execute prepNTFS.pkg

You have to use prepNTFS if you add new content to your NTFS formatted USB HDDs.
Do not forget to use [Refresh XML] / [Refresh HTML] to refresh webMAN's data.

How to update XMB Manager Plus (mod)
1. Click the About option in XMB Manager Plus mod for the update option
2. If there is an update, you will be prompted to download the file (Save in the downloaded pkg in the root of the USB drive)
3. Install the downloaded pkg from Install Package Files
4. Refresh XMB launching any application (eg. BD Reset) and returning to XMB.

Thanks to:
  • DeanK for the awesome webftp_server.sprx
  • COBRA's lead developer for the release of the unofficial Cobra 7.0
  • user for PRX LOADER
  • Team XMBM+: andreus(coding), bitsbubba(coding, themes), DeViL303(coding, POC/WIP) ps3Hen (coding, 4.00 port), aldostools(coding), CloneD(themes), Berion(logos)
  • dreamcat4 for the suggested .xml method and exofreak for his POC release of launch games through XMB using webMAN.

The custom changes to the xil files will be lost when you connect to internet, if are staying for you is because your ps3 (for some reason) is not connecting with internet, or is refusing the info from the server, or your files are identifyed as newer versions of the ones in the server, dunno

Actually, this is the purpose of that annoying feature, sony can inject any "spam" on our XMB without advising and without giving us an option to remove it :/
They just needs to update the files on the server and all the PS3 around the world willl be insta-smapped (this works by region, as servers goes for regions, xil urls are different by region too)

The way i see by now (as a first approach) is it could work by finding where is stored the main xil url, and patch it, but as said is dependant of region so not really sure how is made
This could be a good candidate ---> download_plugin.sprx

I think sony are not updating the xil files past their current version, at least in my region, cant be sure but mine say 2014 and havnt changed at all since I modded them, they come back if I delete them alright.

Finding the url and redirecting to custom xil list would be a great step, I will look at download sprx. It could still be possible to do this with just modified local xml files if all else fails. Maybe we would need to set version to 99999 and date to 2099 stuff like that to stop sony updating them:)

Have you or anyone ever been able to build a custom item from scratch using the xil xmls (or add a second item I mean)? I have tried copying the singstar folders and xmls and giving them different names and editing the db xml to match but cant get any luck so far. Only way I could do this one was by modding what was there already..
could be a conflict somewhere between the 2 xmls, or its not just a simple folder scan that the xil://localhost/list? does, maybe there is another list somewhere. Ill have a poke around.

No, i never made one from scratch

Btw, here is some more info about the xil servers links ---> Online Connections - PS3 Developer wiki

When browsing the xil servers in a PC webbrowser the pages are not displayed automatically... you need to select "view source code of the page"

Thanks, those links have helped a lot.

I can now add as many pkgs as I want to the Homebrew downloader! So now even if we cant find the xil URL in a sprx then we can still do this using just a modified xml. :D

Nice one. A fresh pair of eyes & the required motivation always do wonders...

The thread about Download redirection you were asking for is here.

I have these questions for you as well:
Does the downloaded copy of the pkg remain on the hdd or is it erased after installation? If the copy remains, in what folder?
What happens when you try to download something other than pkg?

As for the wMM remap function, I adopted it straight away because it's the only workaround we have but it has at least 4 disadvantages I can think of.

1. It's a temporary workaround, only to be used for downloading then it should be unmapped otherwise the system will use /dev_hdd0/Downloads instead of /dev_usb000 for everything else. It's bound to be source of problems with some things, I have not tested the potential problems yet though.

2. You must have a usb key/hdd formatted in fat32 in usb port to have the remap/unmap functions working.

3. There's no background downloading possible.

4. The error message

In any case, well done for finding another piece of the puzzle..

Can anyone sum up the situation with XMBM on DEBUG VSH ? I haven't been following this thread for a long time

Can anyone sum up the situation with XMBM on DEBUG VSH ? I haven't been following this thread for a long time

Ive just done some fresh tests as I have a formatted console here, fresh install of Rebug 4.78.1 and then XMBM+Mod.pkg 0.23.003.

I could be wrong but I think the issue is just that it doesn't show up on Debug XMB , for me anyway, only shows on retail XMB. There seems to be no problem with using an older xml or adding the entry below to the existing category_game_tool2.xml as far as I can see, but this is a clean system with no other mods so maybe there is a conflict with something else that I dont have installed/running.

Did you purposely leave this out of <View id="root_dex"> because of an another issue, I seen someone say something about spinning icons on ingame XMB?
Code:
<Query
				class="type:x-xmb/folder-pixmap"
				key="game_xmbm_hdd0"
				src="xmb://localhost/dev_hdd0/game/XMBMANPLS/USRDIR/game_main.xml#seg_xmb_hdd0_app"
				/>

I havnt found any problems with this category_game_tool2.xml from rebug 4.78.1 , I just added the entry above. this one includes Rebug pkg manager, XMBM+Mod, and Webman games if anyone wants to test. But like I said above there may be a clash with some other XMB mod that im not getting on my setup and there are a lot of possible configurations in the toolbox so I havnt tried them all..

If you press "PS" button in-game, then you will see the spinning icon on game category, which was why I removed that entry for now..

Ok, I see now. Im not getting any icon at all there (for a second "quit game" entry that I hadn't seen) that's why I didn't spot it. just an empty space on my XMB below games, no icon spinning or otherwise.

Have not yet looked for answers regarding this issue.
I moved xmbm+ to video temporarily in DEX to avoid the problem.

I've read about it, but I rather not doing it. I'm at the point to add xmbm integrated and let toolbox toggles it..

not so sure though

When is your deadline?
I could put in a couple of hours of testing tonight.

I am not rushed at all, I always watch the threads when the new stuff comes out, and gather enough feedback and find the fix and etc so that exclusive crap wasn't even needed for me.

I've used an older xml myself and it seems to alleviate the problem (also reduce the size by almost half) but I'll look into it also tonight and will try to get a xml done for testing

I will do what I can & report in a few hours.

You mean the multiple entries with spinning icons in the game category? This issue has been there all the time with xmbm+?

no all icons eventually load just sometimes slower then other times, the multiple listings I get are at the bottom of the list & all the times their official listings but never any icon spinning or not and never selectable

I think the best way to analyze the issue is that to use cobra's debug printf with socat, see what's being loaded while that spinning icon thing is happening.

If you had Cygwin installed, it's fairly easy to get a log thru UDP port, but your PC and PS3 must be connected via LAN together.
