PS3 4.84.2 REBUG REX + COBRA 8.1 Released (Rebug Toolbox Updated / Font Fix / ...)

Following the release of 4.84.1 REX a new update has been made by Team Rebug with the release of 4.82.4 REBUG REX (& D-REX) with the inclusion of COBRA v8.1 that we seen debut in @Joonie's latest PASTA (DEX) COBRA CFW. This update also corrects a long-standing bug (7 years) that resided in Rebug when trying to install in some region via Recovery Mode. Also PS3Xploit Support has been added (mostly for developer use), these features in REBUG REX and various fixes/changes can be seen below. Along with an overview of features REBUG REX can offer

There are two PS2 game formats basically
If you are loading it in ISO format it means you are loading it with either cobra or mamba, this feature is not available in HEN btw (because in HEN is not posible to patch the emulators .self's)

The other way (available in HEN) is by using the "PS2 classics" format, here the ISO is encrypted. This is what you should use for the experiments, because is not dependant of cobra/mamba
This way you can disable cobra... and run your "PS2 classics" game without cobra and without webman
There is a tool made by aldo named "PS2 classic GUI" you can use to create them

Is your PS3 a NAND model? And was this using the CFW power options to reboot into recovery mode?

Alright, I disabled cobra, encrypted a game using ps2 classic GUI, pasted the bin.enc with multiman, unloaded webman using r2+l3+r3, opened the the ps2 classics app, get black screen, the red led of my wired controller turned off, and had to shutdown the console.

You are not following any of the suggestions i told you

1) i dont believe the hdd sentinel and crystal disc... what you need to do is an indepth surface scan that takes hours to complete
2) you are not disabling cobra
3) you are not trying to replace the hdd by a different one
4) you are not using the PS2 classics GUI

Is ok... do whatever you want... but later dont quote me telling... "i did all you said"

by any chance my ps3 slim got a chip damaged so I cannot run ps2 games anymore?
Btw, the PS3 slims doesnt have any chip dedicated to PS2 emularion, so you dont have any chip damaged

I mentioned that the hdd could have problems because at this point i know 2 different ways to damage the file ps2_netemu.self (one of them involves bad sectors in the hdd)
But i guess the MD5 check i suggested should ride out this posible culprit
Also, in both cases, it should be fixed by reinstalling the firmware (and you mentioned you installed other firmwares already)

In the last post you said you had another black screen, that looks to be related to video output. Have you tryed to.. ?
-reset the TV settings (in the TV menu)
-reset video settings (in the PS3 by entering recovery menu)
-use a different HDMI cable
-use a different TV
-try this test https://www.psx-place.com/threads/help-with-ps3-3004b.25215/#post-193959 ...if the activity LED blinks it means the game is working fine but you dont have video output

"the problem might be your ssd. the ps3 isn't really equipped to use them properly, so it's a waste of money"

I changed back to a normal hdd western digital and all my ps3 issues disappeared, no more multiman or webman problems. I totally recommend a 1TB HDD to use as internal drive for daily usage. I didn't know ps3 is unstable when operates with SSD drives.

I currently use the 1TB 2.5' HDD western digital WD10SPZX model with advance format technology. It is a blue HDD with rotational speed 5400 RPM. The local store had available an identical model but with 7200 rotational speed. Will the ps3 be running cool with 7200 rotational speeds? Do you think I should go for that 7200 hdd? Anyway I'll need an additional hard drive as a backup.

I didn't know ps3 cannot operate steady SSD drives.
It's not that it can't, it's that using one is somewhat redundant due to the PS3 hardware not being designed for SSDs in mind, despite using the same SATA interface.

It's like if you use a USB 3.0 drive with the PS3; it'll work because the technology is the same and 3.0 has legacy support, but the PS3 only supports up to 2.0 so you aren't getting the full benefit due to the limitations of the console itself.

great cfw i just installed 4.84.2 dex a few days ago and it's great but the only issue is the terrible psp game compatibility because i tried 9 psp games with the official cobra launcher, only 2 games worked fine, in one the character model would move to every direction and the rest gave black screen
btw i tried priority on but nothing changed

PSP compatability is crap anyways on PS3 no matter which CFW you use, so am not supprsied by this. You would have better luck on PC, or even your phone, with the PPSSPP emlulator for PSP games. This is what I use anyways for my PSP games.

@Joonie

I have a bug on lastest REBUG DREX

When setting Retail XMB in the Toolbox the XMB will not load at all, it will be stuck in the wave animation.

Seems like the Vsh CEX version is not working.

So i need to use the dex one

(I''m trying the cex one because i need to test my mod in the video column that is not available in vsh dex)

Maybe one option is triggering this idk, because sometimes it works other not.

Using the sysconf.sprx cex instead of dex, will show all missing options, media server etc... but the Video Config is the only one that doesnt show, can it be enabled via hex?

I'M USING A CLEAN INSTALL of rebug

-------------------------EDIT------

I Found what is triggering it

@aldostools when WebMan mod is instaled it prevents it to load, can webman detecs the right settings?

Edit 2

Even installing webman mod again will not work.

I'm on D-REX

What trigger this

- Open up Rebug Toolbox
- Go to the "Selector" column
- Set the following:
-- System Mode - REBUG
-- XMB Operation Mode - Retail
-- Debug Menu Type - CEX QA

It will be stuck in the wave animation.

Disabling WebMan Mod will load just fine

System Update debug skips license check on XMB but from my experience it didn't skip for recovery mode.
I have 4.85 CFW installed on machine and i do test but i notice thing that when i put my CFW PUP on USB and click Update via storage media (to install same actual CFW version ,i have 4.85 CFW installed and try to install same 4.85) it say in centre of screen that update data of same version has been found with my update name but it doesn't show the user agrement page but when i try with Overflow CFWs i install them and reinstall them again on top of same 4.85 cfw it show update name in top center and it shows the user agrement ,so what is my problem i only edit version.txt from 4.85 only to 4.85 LOU@Y Anonymous CFW ...etc !!!

Does the new font fix included in this firmware is meant to fix the ps2_netemu Polish characters also? I have loaded a game through the netemu and the special characters are not present.

there are two things that are annoying, first i decided to try the devs ps network so i switched the np environment to sp-int as mentioned in the rebug website but i get a dns error when trying to sign in also the flash mounter on han toolbox freezes my ps3, anyone know anything???
i'm on rebug 4.84.2 dex

No, I think this removed the patch for that as it was causing other issues.

Hi. sp-int is for registered devs only, you cant go on with normal CEX CID and normal account. I doubt the rebug website told you that you could "try the devs ps network". Probably just said that sp-int is a valid setting. There are like 50 other valid settings, see here https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Environments but we can only use np afaik. I think they have a whitelist now for those dev networks so everyone else is blacklisted basically.

Web exploits are made for CEX HFW normally. people dont use web exploits on CFW really and Rebug is DEX based so your exploits would have to be custom made for it. Some exploits do have a "dex" checkbox for devs who are testing on Rebug, but not all, so look out for that. Auto running exploits have no options obviously.

Rebug Toolbox mounts flash as writeable dev_rebug, or so does webman as dev_blind.

Im on 4.81 Dex....
Is there any real reason why i would want to update to 4.84 dex..
...real changes or should i stay..
i seen there a couple of app only supported by 4.81 and 4.82..like Ps2 netemu selecter..

...**OFFTOPIC**...
there is No way to play Myst 3 ps2 iso on PS3...no even with a Ps2 config file...
Im hoping the Ps4 @(8?

Hello friends. Just checking in for a little Rebug help if anyone might have an idea what's going on...Got a weird controller sync issue presenting itself, seems to be mainly on D-Rex CFW

I moved over to Rebug 4.84.2 D-Rex a few weeks back cause I was having freezing issues popping up on Evilnat 4.88 and I couldn't narrow them down. Everything is now working pretty much buttery smooth now on D-Rex, however I seem to have the mysterious controller sync issue only when on D-Rex, where it will boot up the system from the controller with the ps button, but will not sync with the console automatically until I plug it in at least once. I did some testing and went back to REX and it seems to resolve the issue, however since I had installed several of my psn games while on DEX, going back to REX breaks some of those installs (they work fine on DEX).

Any tips for fixing the controller sync issue while remaining on D-REX? Not sure if anyone else has came across this problem. It's a 2501a model slim btw if that helps. It's not the end of the world if I can't fix it but just figured i'd throw it out there in case anyone knows the issue.

I know I replied to you before about this, but I remembered something that might have helped me with this issue, not 100% sure as it's been a long time. I think this is a timing thing between the controller being powered on, and the console booting up and properly connecting to the controller.

If this takes a second too long then the controller ends up stuck in the trying to connect stage.

Try this:

1. first make a backup of the dev_flash2/etc/xregistry.sys file. (IMPORTANT)
2. Then delete the /dev_flash2/etc/xregistry.sys and the /dev_flash2/etc/backup/xregistry.sys then reboot.
3. The console will then recreate the registry when it starts up.

This will kind of act like restoring the settings to factory defaults but you will be sure there is no garbage left over from the previous file. When you boot up after doing this you will need to do some stuff like renaming your local accounts, putting in passwords for PSN and Wifi, setting your system settings how you like them.

Make sure to keep the backup you made in step one incase you have any issues and need to restore it.

All at your own risk of course.

I appreciate the suggestion, but i've kind of decided to just roll with it as having to dabble with setting back up all my psn games is a chore I don't really feel like taking on right now. Weirdly enough it still works like it should a good percentage of the time, then others it just doesn't. I'm getting in the habit of just using the power button on the console, then turning on the controller once it boots into the menu.
