PS3 Cobra changes to add full burned optical media support

The only way to create a double layer BD ISO for PS3 is with an official tool (part of the SDK) that i dont remember the name of it

Disc Image Generator for PlaySation 3 - is what you where talking about. Does dual layer DVD9 and BD as well.

There's also Disc Image checker which will encrypt, de-crypt and check the ISO disc Image after creation.

NOTE: And if anyone is going to read this and twist piracy at me, Yes I do have Licence for the SDK, simple's, end of discussion, the end.

Yes, and there must be some option in that tool where you define the layout of files in the disc, and for double layer discs (and incase there is a file matching with the gap), you need to choose if that files goes in layer1 or layer2

As far i undertood from the people that was explaining this problem this is very tricky, and is needed to look at the original disc to try to "mimick" how it was made the original
It seems to be the kind of test-error scenario where you are going to waste some BD-DL because was wrong made
And, i guess it could happen that the game works fine, but at the point when it tryes to load the file next to the layer gap the game crashes

Once you Select say option...BD50 which is dual layer BluRay or say DVD9 which is dual layer DVD it lets you see the directories for each layer and also tells you how much space is left on each layer, if you try to add a file that will go over the layer size, bu not the pace on the disc, it simply wont let you and you get an error or warning cannot remember which lol, I have never really used it for PS3. Used it for making disc images of my PS2 games and all of the ones I have done so far are under the dual layer DVD9 size so they would be DVD5 classed as.

Basically its a fully manageable disc image creator, use this in conjunction with the System File Utility ( PARAM.SFO Utility ), check it with the Image checker utility and you can make proper ISO images that should work flawlessly. without issues.

I also like to use the Trophy Packer Utility to make custom trophy icons for games, PSN servers don't know the difference as it was created by the proper tool ( As long as you don't go messing with the data, like people do with that- "Trophy is good" crap! wow you pressed a button to get all the trophies, aren't you clever, my nephew when he was 3 could do as much and moreo_O :D. Changing the images should be fine )

The system file utility works on all PS devices form the PSP to the PS3, The trophy packer works for PSP to PS4.

If i remember right, the optical disc type (CD, DVD, BD) doesnt matters, you can burn a PS3 game to a DVD and it should work (and i guess to a CD if you find a PS3 game small enought)

For PS2 just make an ISO with imgburn and burn it to DVD
Not sure if PS2 DVD-DL could have more special requirements

It shouldn't matter at all, it should only matter when the size exceeds the optical medias capacity, even then a ps3 game that exceeds the size of a DVD5 your should be able to burn to a DVD9 and it should work on CFW or RCPS3 on PC for that matter. I cannot test the DL methods as this PC needs and external optical drive to use BD, DVD and CD, the old PC is dead and this is a 4K HD Mini PC and i need to buy and external BD-ROM drive that is PS3 disc readable and DL compatible for writing, for it. And i cannot for the life of me remember if there was any special requirements for DL optical media burning.

EDIT a PS3 game that fits on a CD-ROM??? LOL would be an awesome game that........

load game> main menu with music> end of game...

is this working on current 4.84 cobra custom firmwares?
Yes, only restriction is with PS2 games because the only PS2 emulators that plays PS2 games from optical media are exclusive for the first PS3 models with full or partial backward compatibility

https://www.psx-place.com/threads/c...optical-media-support.12494/page-9#post-77540
Summary:

  • PS3 games work from CD-R, DVD -/+ R, BD-R, and from DVD DL, and probably BD-RE
  • PS2 games work from CD-R, and DVD -/+ R but only on CECH A,B,C,E models. Other models including all slims are not supported in PS2 case, and this can't be fixed easily.
  • PSX games work from CD-R on any CFW PS3.

So... for the first test to check that is working you could try with a tiny game burned in a CD-R

Ops, this deserves another post

An important problem is the PS3 games bigger than 25gb needs to be burned in "dual layer" bluray discs... and this is very tricky to prepare (is explained back in the thread)
Lets say... your failure ratio is going to increase a lot with this kind of discs

So initially (and eventually forever) forget about burning discs with the PS3 games bigger than 25gb
There are not so much PS3 games bigger than that size, and the ones that exists probably can be reduced in size, by removing audio from not-used languages, extra videos, etc...

Yup I read the whole thread, just being cauteous before writing any files on my dev_flash.

Will report soon.

How do I get this working on 4.8.4 Rebug CEX? The XMB reads my disc but as soon as I press start, it looks like it's gonna work but then fires error code at me and only gives me the option to close and return back to the XMB. Ripped from my retail game via Multiman to make an ISO and then verified it as 1:1 via PS3 ISO Rebuilder and burned to DVD with imgburn

Same with PS2/PS1 games and I have an original fat 60gb model.

Have rebug mode disabled and normal mode running and cobra enabled in rebug toolbox.

Long story short the tool your using use whats called "genps3isov2" which has compatibility issue's. You should use PS3 ISO Tools by Rudi Russle which use's "makeps3iso".

Take a look at this post on another thread by @sandungas for some more info:

https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ps3-best-program-to-convert-to-iso.21947/#post-151066

Also you may want to consider reading the whole thread from the start to get as much info as you can.

Got it working! Uncompilied the isos back to folder format, used gen ps3 iso 2.0 to make the new iso and burnt successfully to disk with imgburn

My question is since these are 1:1 copies, is it alright to go online using the precautions of SEN Enabler and PSN Patch? Or will it see I'm running them off of burnt disks?

My other question is would I be able to compress some of the isos to fit onto disk and still be alright to go online? I know you're never fully safe to go online, hence private CID and SEN enabler and PSN patch as well as throwaway PSN account

gen ps3 iso have 2 problems basically
1) the latest version introduced a bug that breaks the compatibility with burned discs... this is why you needed to use v2.0 (instead of latest), but imo this is not convenient because by using an old version you are removing the bug... and also you are removing the features that was included after that version

2) There are some games that doesnt works with ps3geniso, are only a few, but exists, in this cases the only solution is to use makeps3iso

the ISOtools (by rudi rastelli) allows to crete the iso with makeps3iso and genps3iso, but both have a problem
1) makeps3iso (and others of the pack) are outdated... so you need to "update" them
2) genps3iso is the latest version (with the bug)... so you need to downgrade it to 2.0

---------
Regarding the stealth online... is mostly the same because you are runing a fully patched CFW, most probably sony searches at that patches and the running custom processes, etc... to identify if the user have a CFW... so it doesnt matters if you run the game from a real disc

To create a stealth CFW with this it would be needed to prepare something like his:
1) a CFW with the patch that allows to run burned discs... and i mean... only this patch hardcoded and trying to make it the most minimalistic posible
2) format your hdd
3) install that CFW and only run original games + burned discs

---------
Not sure what you mean by cmpressing the ISO, but thats not posible, what you can do is to rip the games to make them smaller, the easyer "target" for this kind of rippinig are the audio files for the game languages

Look at the links i posted here (and the filelist of the game "goldeneye")
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/007-goldeneye-iso-black-screen.24808/#post-188582

The USA version have english + french audio (for canada i guess):
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_USA.BIN
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_FRE.BIN
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_USA.000
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_FRE.000

The EURO version is "multi5" languages (english, french, italian, german, spanish):
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_USA.BIN
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_FRE.BIN
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_ITA.BIN
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_GER.BIN
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_SPA.BIN
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_USA.000
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_FRE.000
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_ITA.000
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_GER.000
/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/DATA/FILE_SPA.000

By looking at the filenames and sizes i can tell you that the .BIN files are like an "index"... and the .000 files are like a container (where are located the audios and maybe something more, subtitles, whatever)

It can be ripped in 2 diffrent ways:

1) Replace the "index" files you dont want... by the "index" file you want... this way all the "index" files will load the same language
Incase this works (im not sure), you can delete the .000 files... because are not going to be loaded by the game anymore... but we dont know if are listed in some place of the code (like the gamedata installer)... so is beter to replace them by 0kb dummies

2) Replace all the .BIN and .000 files you dont want.... by 0kb dummies
This probably works, in some way it have more chances to suceed because we are not rellying in that replacement of the "index" files i suggested before
The only problem with this is the main menu settings of the game is going to allow to change the language to the language you removed... if you do probably the game will crash (or maybe the game can handle it, but you will not have audio, obviouslly)

No it matters. You need to have a .DVD file or set layer breaks. I think these guys assume it writes from beginning to end which isn't how it is exactly. Without them 360/PS2 DVD9's won't work with a set layer break. Now they being said IMGBurn on PC allows you to set the layer break and the best place to do so. I did a lot of this testing when the feature was packed in.

Edit

After doing some thinking and I forgot about this tool. It will turn JB folder to proper ISO and then burn for PS3. An AIO app.

I know, the Games bigger than 25gb are tricky because the "cut" for the dual layer, i was mentioning it later in the thread, actually makeps3iso and ps3geniso doesnt supports it

What i meant with the "doesnt matters" is the game type (PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP) doesnt seems to be restricted to only one optical media (CD, DVD, BD) :D
Im not completly sure how many combinations are posible, but i remember there was people here in the thread reporting success by burning a PS3 game in a DVD
So i guess is also posible to burn a PS3 game in a CD (a tiny game, or we could take a homebrew, and convert to iso with PSN liberator?)
