PS3 sMAN v1.10n (by deank): New features & improved performance & stability

A couple of new updates aiding in the evolution of the sMAN plugin has been seen in recent days as developer @deank continues to add functionality and as you see in the screenshot additional eye-candy as well. Following up on v0.08n, deank officially labled v1.09 as a Beta Release as several new things were implemented and went through some testing phases. Deank has stated he has almost re-written sMAN so much that it now almost differs from webMAN v1.47n by nearly 50% according to the guy who know (the developer of both plugin) deank. Also thanks to freddy38510 NTFS drives will show the actual time & date stamps in both FTP & the file explore in web-browsers. v0.10n was recently released as well and officially moved from Beta to the next Stable update , that did just that improve the stability & performance of things like the www client . This plugin keeps improving and new features continue to impress as deank's continues to put his magically touches on this ps3 plugin.

  • sMAN v0.10n
In the latest sman.sprx update the internal web server will use threads to serve files/images content. It will no longer hold the whole www client thread and will release the resources immediatelly greatly improving performance and stability. Until now if you download something big via the web interface and then try to browse games or refresh sman would lock, but not anymore..

There were some issues with displaying images/files from network locations (ps3netsrv) using the webbrowser but it is now ok. There are also some other minor fixes.

    Update to sMAN 1.10n: http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx | http://deanbg.com/sMAN_1.10.zip

Network/ps3netsrv locations should now support about 3200 files (1600 ISO games + 1600 images for example).

p.s. sprx is updated again. If someone with a lot of network games can test it - let me know. I tested it with a folder with 9000 files and it handles 3200 to 3300, so it works. :)

    http://www.psx-place.com/threads/sm...on-sfo-scanning-more.12984/page-10#post-75905

  • I updated sman.sprx - it now has a separate option for dev_blind. sman_res.exe is changed to support .htm resource files. The source is also updated. Web content is now in external .htm files in wmtmp/res folder. It is still work in progress, but at least you can see how it is progressing.

The web-pages are still ugly, but now someone can help with improving them. The external files are:
    • www_head.htm - this is present in each generated page and can be edited by a web-designer
    • www_setup.htm - the setup page (only the form)
    • www_foot.htm - the footer
    • www_file.htm - some javascript needed for table sorting (doesn't work on the ps3 browser)

The dynamic content is generated after www_head and before www_foot.

I made some changes to the layout... should be something like this at the moment:

It should look much better now. You have a very early build. It now doesn't use tables, but I rewrote everything with css. Not really gorgeous, but still simple and lite. Shows 99% the same on the PC and on the PS3 now. Also it fits perfectly even in SD resolution (720x576). :)

Without Javascript the Setup page cannot be used (because js is used to set current options/values), but all other functions are ok.

This option was never clickable. The checkbox was always disabled and its "ticked" state just indicates whether the lowest speed will be applied (which happens only in "auto" mode). I added back the "tick" when in auto-mode - it is purely cosmetic checkbox just to make the options look more ordered on screen. :)

I updated sman.sprx. Also game listing in the web-browser on the PS3 now looks properly (game names are centered as they should be - same as on the PC).

http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx (now up to 1.09n - resource files will be updated and you'll also get a new background for sMAN GUI).
    sMAN updated (http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx)

I hope this 1.09n version is the last "beta"/"unstable" before the official 1.10. It seems very stable at the moment. I optimized a lot of functions and rewrote a lot of the code - probably over 50% is now completely different compared to webMAN 1.47n.

In this update the optimizations lead to another memory usage decrease - you should now have 2324KB free memory.

FTP browsing is faster - both for hdd/usb and ntfs drives, which means copying a lot of folders will be much faster compared to any wM/sM version.

Along with all the other changes since 1.08 (external web content/additional xmb info tags/code optimizations) 1.09n should be the version to update to without worries.

Thanks to @freddy38510 the ntfs library now supports proper date/time stamps for files/folders. sMAN is updated to show actual date/times in FTP and web-browser for NTFS drives.

and that
There is socat.exe for windows (which I use). There is no need for linux for this basic task. Also you'll need a sman version with some debug print enabled.

And about your issues:

1) Do not disable sman in boot_plugins.txt with "#" - just delete boot_plugins.txt if you really want to test
2) It is normal to see a disc icon in XMB after you mount a game with mM
3) You're doing crazy stuff like putting real PS3 discs, ejecting and whatnot.
4) I can't figure if you're using multiMAN or mmCM, because the former IS NOT for cobra cfw
5) After you delete wmtmp folder and restart, check if sman extracted the resource files in wmtmp/res folder before giving the fatal error.

ok how do i get the sman with debug print enabled?

you're right about the disc icon...it does show up, I haven't used mM in a while , probably for over 2+yrs , just wMM to load games and i could've sworn back then it didn't do it. but maybe im mixed up with another game manager...

yes when i say multiman it is actually mmCM i don't use regular mM except to convert iso to ps2 classic iso's but I haven't done that in months... maybe 4 to 6

i deleted the wmtmp restarted, went into the res and there nothing there and yes Im still getting the fatal error. i wanted to see if running mmCM and loading a game before even installing sman would make it give an error and it did.

so here's what i did, since I duplicated the issue on my hdd, i had another ps3 and put my hdd into it after i wiped it with pc, when i put the hdd in there , this time i installed mmCM loaded a game but didn't run it. then i just rebooted I installed absolutely nothing else on the system...except toolbox

this was a freshly modded unit, i installed sman after the reboot and got the fatal error! but here's the thing...now on these 2 systems, even if i wiped the hdd, rebuild database, restore files, no matter what ...the error kicks up...i can never get rid of it unless i delete wmtmp and all things sman. but the problem is probably somewhere "deep" in the ps, because once it happens on a system ....it never goes away.

next time i mod a system ...i will not run mmCM first and i will install sman and i bet it will work until i run mmCM. we'll test later

for now i just need the sman print deal

I bet if you install CFW 4.46 (cobra) you won't have these issues. Somewhere along the path with all these CFW updates something got broken with access permissions... That's my guess...

@deank ... remember the issue i had with the "sman fatal error - quit" thing... one of my customers i sold a ps to and 2 other viewers on my channel had the exact same thing happen to them.

so after some digging around it seems we all had the same common factor... multiman.

3 of us turned off our consoles after loading a game with mM and returning to the xmb when done playing. 2 of those 3 had sman off before using mM but the sman icon on the xmb was displaying because xmb integration hadn't been turned off first. the 3rd couldn't remember.

the 4th person is harded for me to understand because their English is a bit broken but they used mM to while sman was still running too.

it seems that maybe the feature in sman that loads the last played game could be the culprit... if the game was loaded and with another app and played. and for me literally the ONLY way to fix it was to remove the hdd.. wipe it on the pc then have the ps reformat it and installed rebug and everything all over again. then i reinstalled 1.09 and everything was smooth as butter! and this happened to me on 1.09 and i used the exact same file... the md5 was the same as before and checked out.

rebuild database... reinstalling rebug.... restore files... etc none of that worked... just a complete hdd wipe solved it.

1 of us was on sman 1.08. 2 were on 1.09 and the most recent one was on 1.10 and all of us were on rebug with webman off in toolbox of course.

removing sman still leaves the invisible icon on the screen... you gotta remove xmlhost and wmtmp folders. however the issue still affects wMM if you install or run wMM after... the ftp won't work unless you're in toolbox or multiman but not from xmb. the 2 of us that did this after completely removing sman had the same wMM problem

after removing the wmtmp and xmlhost... ftp of sman returned but still got fatal error. even when installing other versions of sman. 2 of us did this with the same results. the other 2 i have no idea if they tried it or not.

anyway just thought id let you know. im on wMM now after testing sman and it worked i completely removed it because i didn't want issue to happen again.

hope all this helps out.

can you sum up your issue with in 5 or 6 sentences? and with possible screen shots?

I can try to rule out the issue whether it was caused by the permission that @deank mentioned or not.

Write me a noob tutorial about how to make the issue happen

lol ok @Joonie no problem

After I got a fatal error i've run some tests to duplicate it and did. to confirm about 30 mins ago I just did it again on a new freshly modded downgraded system. this is the 3rd time i've been able to duplicate it.
___________________________________________

On a new system i put rebug 4.81.02 / 7.50 cex
installed toolbox 2.02.12 the "1mb" one not the full
turned on cobra, then full reboot
installed multiman, went into it and transferred a couple of random games to the internal hdd
mM is now mmCM of course

then unplugged usb and did refresh in multiman , then while there, i ftp'd sman.sprx to hdd0 root and placed the boot_plugin.txt with the ONLY thing written in it being /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx

did a full restart system right from mmcm in the first column

at the xmb sman loaded fine, everything seems good. then in sman setup i disable xmb intergration, save, and restart , now i go to toolbox, via ftp delete the boot txt...reboot...

then go into mmcm pick a game to load(none of the radio buttons are ticked on) , back at xmb the disc icon is there , no need to launch game...

now go back to mmcm and back out to xmb to make sure icon disappears then go to toolbox and ftp the boot txt back ...full reboot and .....bam...fatal error..and the sman xmb icon will be there but its invisible with just "sman" and the version to the right of it, ftp works, setup page is white and shows an error code. and the res folder is always empty.

________________________________________________
its always there unless i delete all related sman stuff, but it will always be there if i ever install it again! rebuid database, restore files, i've wiped the hdd on the pc and reformatted it on the ps...doesn't matter once it gives this error it will always appear...even if i just install the toolbox and sman right afterwards...once it happens, it always happens, unless i delete all sman files

sorry it was alot more than 6 lines, just wanted to be thorough. let me look for some pics i posted 2 here somewhere...

sman.sprx is updated - it can extract icon/sfo from all ntfs ps3 iso games (it is not crashing after 66+ games). Also the scan is faster than before and less memory is used. Now both ntfs and network games in iso get their names/icons extracted on the first scan/attempt.

thanks grandmaster @deank i have a good news your latest sman didn't hang, freeze or crashing the ps3netsrv. but the bad news is sman still get my pc memory full and then my pc crash ps3netsrv, and bc ps3netsrv is crash the sman in my ps3 stop scaninng and say the scan is complete, and show my only 612 of my 1340 iso games.

the ps3netsrv_debug give me this msg:

so the only problem left is from the pc side.

Note: after the ps3netsrv crash it take 2-3 min then the pc memory return to normal.

@Me_TheKing I really have no idea why it happens on your PC. The only thing I can think of is an antivirus software, which tries to read all the network traffic of ps3netsrv and scan it and causing the memory issue. If you have AV program and you can turn off tcp scanning on port 38008 we will know better.

mmmm yes i think maybe this the problem i will see what i can do bc now i don't have any problem excpt the pc memory.

thanks again i will update you with anything i notes from my test.

About 3-4MB of data per game would fill your whole memory (~2500MB) after 600 games, so I guess it is something about the AV. If you can disable it for one run we will know for sure.

sorry @deank i unstall my AV and even disable the window defender but the problem is the same.
what do you think if i try it in VM with a fresh windows and see if i have the same problem or no need for that?

my pc is with win7 ultimate 64-bit + intel Xeon 2.80 + 3GB of ram + AV was Microsoft security Essentials

I'm using Win7 Ultimate 32bit 4GB RAM Intel Core2Duo 2.4GHz with absolutely no antivirus software. ps3netsrv_debug.exe uses 712-750KB and system memory never grows up during scan.

You can test with 32bit VM and see if it makes difference. I really have no other ideas.

I just tested sMAN with my Raspberry Pi2 (and Pi3) running Ubuntu 14.04 and sMAN scanned 130 network games + DVD/BD titles without issues.

I created 900 test iso files and will test it later to see how it goes with 1000 ps3 iso titles.

@Zoilus I've also had this kind of problem with the fatal error. Don't know exactly what caused it, but it happened after i updated from v1.05n to 1.08n.

Before the update i had sman.sprx in /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx and my boot_plugins.txt pointed to that file, in that location.

I later tried to move sman to /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx and updated my boot_plugins.txt to point there, and it fixed the problem. Since then, everytime i update sman, i'm very carefull to make sure i unload sman first and then update via mmCM FTP.

Now i am using v1.10n and everything works flawless (kudos for this amazing plugin btw @deank).

EDIT: Hahaha i just realised that i was your video on youtube i followed in the first place to try and fix my fatal error problem @Zoilus :biggrin2: thank you for a great walkthrough!

I update sman.sprx while testing at least 10 times a day (sometimes 50 times) and I'm doing it via its own FTP client. I never disable/uninstall it nor use another FTP server - it makes no sense.

@Me_TheKing

Here are my test results:

* USB 2.0 hdd connected to the PC (with the games in ISO format)
* 1000 PS3 games in ISO format on PC via ps3netsrv_debug.exe
* PC connected via 100MBit wired to router (slowest setup)
* Took 23 mins to complete (about 1,33 seconds per game)
* Windows allocated 256KB per each connection/ISO (so about 250MB of memory) - it was not allocated by the System or ps3netsrv, but I can see how free memory decreased
* After stopping ps3netsrv_debug.exe when the scan has completed, 250MB were returned back to the system

I'm confident now that sMAN 1.10 works fine with 1000 network games (I don't have time to check it with 3000 but I'm sure in 60 minutes it will scan 3000 network games).

Still there is some memory leak in ps3netsrv or it is just Windows... :)

****

I'm testing now the same HDD (ntfs) connected to the PS3...

* Again 1000 PS3 games
* The scan completed in 9 mins (about 0,54 seconds per game - 112 games per minute) - it is almost 3 times faster than the network scan

***

sman.sprx is updated... the scan completes much faster now (after all games are found).

@deank Facepalm, I didn't know there is a ps3netsrv for Linux, even for a RPi. I own a RPi3, where do I get Linux Intel/ARM version of ps3netsrv? Do I have to compile by myself?

Although I don't want to use OpenELEC or another distribution. I would like to run it on Raspbian Lite or Arch Linux with no GUI at all.

I'm running headless ubuntu 14.04 (well with Movian as a GUI :) but it is bare 14.04) so you can too use ps3netsrv on your Pi2/Pi3 and there is no need for specific distribution (just some external ext4/ntfs drive and you're set).

I compiled mine to use less resources but still works fine to stream FullHD 3D Blu-ray ISO @60Hz to the PS3 while watching it 3D on my Sony kd-55s8505c.

yeah the issue did not happen when I made my artemis tutorial vid 3 weeks ago. in that vid i turned off sman, loaded the game with mmCM , used artemis turned off the system then i would turn on sman, reboot...and it was working like butter and I think i was on 1.06 or 1.07 ...im going to mod a couple of systems today and or tomorrow , on the next one i do i will install 1.07 and see if it happens . I KNOW 1.09 and 1.10 does it and i KNOW 1.06 does not, so the problem started in either 1.07 , 1.08 or 1.09 ...i will find out! and hopefully @Joonie was able to replicate the problem if not i will do the socat deal this weekend

and thanks for watching! and being a member here!

EDIT: sorry again @deank it's the same, now i'm going to try the laptop.
