Also its a formal request, can i ask some stuff regarding this HEN which i havent found else where in pm? Hope u respond

There is a support thread for PS3HEN on this site somewhere where you can ask questions about it or start your own thread to ask for info you cannot find.

I don't use HEN myself as I have 2 PS3's on REBUG CFW so I don't need it.

rebug cant be installed in hfw?

No... not on a CECH3000 model PS3 as I have already said. You cannot install CFW on your model using any method as it will brick your PS3 making it useless and unusable.

I salute the community

I promise to be helpful and participate actively on my part.

My ps3 console is a slim model number CECH 2504B.

I recently upgraded to rebug REX 4.84.2. I'm coming from a fully operational 3.55 CEX cfw which is installed to the original ps3's hdd drive 360GB. The firmware update completed smoothly using my original ps3 hdd.

After the newer installed firmware, I had to give it a chance and upgrade the 360GB to SSD for smoother faster loadings.

Using a formatted 120GB SSD kingston, I installed again the same firmware rebug REX 4.84.2. The process completed, however this time the ps3's XMB menu <settings> is missing the video settings.

It appears that my old ps3 360GB drive is not missing the video settings.

After a lot of search in the web, I figured out a solution.

Using the rebug toolbox that came with the firmware

I changed the following setting through the toolbox:

selector > system mode -- normal
XMB Operation Mode -- debug

To this:

selector > system mode -- rebug
XMB Operation Mode -- retail

Tata!

The video settings came back.

It seems like the video settings changes are being saved even if I turn back the toolbox selector settings to default (selector > system mode -- normal, XMB Operation Mode -- debug).

But If I stay with the settings system mode -- rebug, XMB Operation Mode -- retail my multiman manager's functions are freezing and I cannot copy games to internal hdd and a few other strange symptoms.

Does that mean the rebug 4.84.2 REX is buggy/faulty? Or I shouldn't expect everything to be working when using system mode rebu and xmb retail.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Every time I need to restore a backup file which created from the ps3 XMB's backup utility, I should start over and do a clean installation of the webman? Do we have to create a backup file with webman uninstalled?

We all know the webman setup is time consuming... and everytime we restore a previously created backup file, we start the webman setup from the scratch.

Sorry that I don't have a spare 2.5' hdd do some tests.
I could use the option debug for hdd exchange utility from the debug settings to create a backup of the system.
Then I could restore it to my SSD.
As I said my old hdd drive is absolutely in good working condition, flawless XMB menu.

Should work fine either way, I have REBUG Mode enabled all the time wether it CEX or DEX, Reatil XMB or Debug.

Try removing and then re-install MultiMAN.

Excellent recommendation, I didn't know I could use the system rebug + retail XMB on a daily basis.

Let's see how it goes if I uninstall both webman and multiman, then I come back here to post my tests.

First I install multiman (ver. multiMAN 04.82.00 BASE 20171128), then the webMAN MOD 1.47.25 or it doesn't matter which will be the first?

Thanks coldheart, you're great.

I installed both the homebrews and I changed to: selector rebug system + xmb operation mode retail.

After a while, during surfing the menu options in multiman the ps3 freezes to a static image.

As you understand, I was forced to manual shutdown the console using the power button.

You're getting the idea, I get unreliable multiman functions when I have selected -- >

selector rebug system + xmb operation mode using the rebug toolbox.

I can't tell if this is about using a SSD although.

Any good recommendation for a normal 1TB hard drive for my ps3 slim CECH 2504B?
I have an amazon uk account and I can purchase directly from there, I'll order as soon as possible.

I should stay away from using my old hdd drive as this is my only safe pillow option at the moment, I don't want to corrupt my old hdd drive system tweaking the system options.

If your in the UK in would just use CeX for a decent second hand 1TB HDD think I only paid £25 for mine, Its a Toshiba 1TB AF(Advanced format) HDD.

As for your issue with MultIMAN all REBUG Mode is is a VSH swap really from what has been explained to me about it.

I have one of my PS3's setup like this:
REBUG 4.84.2 REX Cobra 8.1
Lv2 Kernel: CEX
Target ID: CEX
System Mode: REBUG
XMB: Retail QA

And the other is setup like this:
REBUG 4.82.2 D-REX Cobra 7.55
Lv2 Kernel: DEX
Target ID: DEX
System Mode: REBUG
XMB: DEBUG

And I don't get issues like this, is MultiMAN in Cobra Compatible Mode... It will show up on the XMB as mmCM instead of MultiMAN.

Also with webMAN and MultiMAN use one at a time do use one then try to use the other without rebooting the PS3 as they can clash and freeze the PS3. This was ment to have been fixed but some people are still saying that it happens from time to time, not sure if it on CFW or just on HEN that this happens. Its just really annouying when the PS3 crashes when your in the middle of doing something lol.

Also @Joonie will be able to sya more about REBUG Mode and if there are any glitches when using it with homebrew but as I have said I get no issues like this at all.

Just to double check: you are running Rebug REX 4.84.2 and not HEN? Does multiMAN display as mmCM (this is multiMAN in Cobra mode)? If not, toggle it into Cobra mode in multiMAN Settings on its 'XMB' UI. Rebug 4.84 has Cobra enabled by default (previous versions required toggling with Rebug Toolbox).

The fact that you're using an SSD shouldn't matter, unless it itself is failing. In fact, from what I understand they don't offer much improvement in terms of performance over a standard HDD. As for recommending a new hard drive for your PS3, @Cypher_CG89 has experience with this (he's also in the UK) and so should be able to help.

All I know is it needs to be a 2.5" SATA at either 5400 or 7200rpm. 1TB will work fine, but it can be tricky getting hard drives over 1.5TB working from what I've read. Again, Cypher knows more about this than I do and I believe he's got a 2TB HDD working properly on at least one of his PS3s.

Before doing so however, you could try rebuilding the database and/or file system to see if that resolves the issue as freezing in multiMAN can cause issues which doing the above can possibly resolve. Hope this helps you out a bit. :)

. Again, Cypher knows more about this than I do and I believe he's got a 2TB HDD working properly on at least one of his PS3s.

Yes I do but I wouldn't say it works properly. It involves mofifing< WFT is this lol, "Modding" the HDD with HDAT and messing around with the HDD's encrypted data< not a good thing if you don't know what youa re doing or mess it up nas you will ruin the HDD and make it unusable

Also needs many formats and fine tune it to hide sectors as out the box a 2TB will not work. Plus only certain models/manufacurers of HDDs will work and they must be from around the same time as the PS3> Toshiba 2TB is in mine. Infact all my PS3 HDDs are toshiba. Cluster sizes and everything have to be just right> A program that will format the HDD for XP is needed for native 4k custer sizes.

And after you do all this and get it to work if for whatever reason your forced to use the Recovery options> Rebuild Database, Files system restore you will get a lovely error message syaing the connected storage media is not supported forcing you to re-format the HDD and you loose ALL you data. So in the end it is not worth it really after all this. I wish I never bothered with it now as I have been forced to re-install all my data twice now on this PS3 and when I get the chance I am removing it and replacing it with a 1.5TB HDD as its simply not worth the headache.

People have asked me how to do this in the past I I won't tell them because of all the glitches and issue's it brings or I would of wrote a TUT a long time ago for it.

A 1.5 TB HDD should work fine as is with no messing about.

The fact that you're using an SSD shouldn't matter, unless it itself is failing. In fact, from what I understand they don't offer much improvement in terms of performance over a standard HDD.

Yes SSD is simply not worth it on PS3 as the sata controller isn't made for them, you might get a slight improvement in loading time becasue of the way they access and cache data but thats it and some SSD's are pure crap and break easily> NAND ones are informus for it, especially older ones.

I put thermal paste and an aluminiun heatsink on my mSATA SSD in my PC as it can get that effing hot and this will lead to failure of the SSD.

@Cypher_CG89 , off topic, I can't remember if it was you or @Naked_Snake1995 who loves the sabrent enclosures. they're the only ones I've been using for many years. anyway, I bought a refurbished enclosure over two months ago, and it along with a new 1TB hdd had been sitting downstairs, since they time. I didn't even test if they worked well passed the normal warranty. yesterday, I put the hdd in the enclosure to be a wii hdd. I've been without an hdd for that system for two+ years. my original hdd is in a sabrent enclosure as well. strangely, the old hdd works just fine. I thought it had died, and that's why I bought the new hdd and enclosure. anyway, both hdds work, so I guess I have a new backup drive. right now, I'm backing up the drive to a computer. it's going to take another five hours though. :)

You mean these little beasts: HDD Enclosure and 4 Port powered USB Hub.

Sabrent.png

They are well worth the money you pay for them> They are cheap, durable and work perfect on PS3 and other consoles for External Storage. I use both of these on my PS3s. Works with both SATA and SSD.

I just like Sabrent Tech full stop mate, I took a chance on buying something from the Brand and haven't looked back since. Most stuff now is Sabrent I have, There USB cable are second to non as well. I hace 4 USB to Mini USB cable for my PS3 controllers, USB cable for charging phones. As I say well worth it> Price and quality are exceptional.

not that model. I just took a pic of it:

I bought the same model for this new one, so I wouldn't have to swap out cables.

And I thought I was nuts with External Storage I see at least 5 HDDs there lol, which one am I looking at> the small one in the middle or what looks like a 3.5 HDD Enclosure?

Mine is a couple of years old now, there's a new USB 3.0 version of it which I have my eye on for my 4K PC or for my second other PC when it arrives.

yes, the one that's standing upright. that's the old hdd in the same model enclosure. the new one is sitting on my bed along with one of my 10TB hdds. I didn't have enough room to have them all connected at once, but with the five hdds I have connected most of the time, I have about 34TBs worth of storage. the two hdds in the back are 10TBs apiece. I copied the wii backup to the new enclosure, but that's before I knew the old one still worked, so I'm going to have to recopy files from the old to the new.

Sorry, I was away for a while, I'll try to keep up with the posts.

I have Rebug REX 4.84.2 original not HEN, I'm coming from a fully working cfw 3.55 that my console had installed for several years, due to lack of free time, I was away from the homebrew scene.

Cypher, it shows up on the XMB as mmCM instead of MultiMAN. I just switched to mmCM through multiman GUI interface.

My ps3's setup is like this:

rebug toolbox MULTI version: 02.03.02

rebug toolbox information:

ps3 system firmware 4.84
Lvl2 Kernel: CEX
Target Type: CEX
Cobra 8.1

I installed the REBUG 4.84.2 REX

Cobra mode is set to: enabled
Debug menu is set to: CEX QA

System Mode: REBUG
XMB: Retail

My SSD is brand new unused.

"Also with webMAN and MultiMAN use one at a time do use one then try to use the other without rebooting the PS3 as they can clash and freeze the PS3."

I never use both of them at the same time to load my backups, if this is what you mean. I thought it would be better to first do a ps3 reboot before I start using the other manager.

You mean I can touch either the one or the other by any means necessary?
What if I want to start mmcm check a few settings, then use the webman?

I'm not in the Uk, but in European Union, items I order from amazon uk I usually get them within 7-10 days.
Check this article out!
Technically SSD doesn't boost so much game performance, but is a great experience, it's smoothing even gameplay for certain titles, again if all games updates have been applies, the difference is minimum.

I tried the rebuild data base a few days ago when I was trying to restore my backup save games, the process successfully completed for my ps3's 128GB SSD, but my save games didn't recognized by the console, the games were displaying: save game is from different user...

Of course I installed again the same cfw 4.84.2 rebug REX for my SSD to get a clean system.

Thank God I had an old backup which was created back in the days, I used it, and thankfully it gave me back my save game files.

But I had no luck with my trophies, I guess better safe than sorry, I should stay away from the PSN games saves + trophies syncing.

Guys remember: Ps3 will recognize only MBR formatted partitions, either NTFS or FAT32.

Use GPT for pc's, MBR for ps3.

When I check for updates using mmcm GUI interface I get a newer version: 00.00.00. What the heck is this?

At the mmcm GUI interface, at the tab system information I get:

mmcm version 4.82
ps3 firmware version 4.75 [SC-35 | PL3]

4.75?? I thought we were on 4.84.2

This is good practice. A little tip for you: webMAN MOD has a handy button combo to reboot the PS3 - L3+Circle+R2 :)

Seems like everything is running fine with your setup, so unless it's your SSD starting to crap out on you I'm not sure what the issue could be. :confused3:
