Nintendo Pinky's Wii-U Tutorials

yeah, I heard that 5.6.0 was coming in December. I'm using Yoshi's Island for haxchi. I already owned the game, so that's y I chose it. u actually don't need to install haxchi unless u want things to be easier or want to boot multiple homebrews. u can use fw booter with ur fw.img via the homebrew channel as an alternative.

I'm not sure if zelda will have newer firmware on it, but u could use loadiine to boot the game since u can just delete the update partition. I haven't heard of a game that wouldn't allow u to boot it due to firmware, but there may be some. there probably is for really old firmware, but I dunno. spoofing may be enough if u have to have newer firmware. my second wii-u is spoofed to 5.5.1. there was (don't think there is anymore) a brick risk with spoofing, because at that time there was no progress bar. the system would return to the home menu, and u'd have to guess if enough time had passed. two minutes was the suggested amount of time to wait. anyway, I haven't had any issues with it. it shows the spoof in system settings and u can access online I believe, but the update servers don't recognize the system as being on 5.5.1, so it will still try installing an update unless u block updates.

yeah, u should make sure u have a proxy or tubehax to block updates. that's what I hate about the wii-u - automatic firmware installs. I'm using cc proxy for my proxy service. I like having direct control over it. I've also enabled mac filtering, so only the systems I specify can use the proxy. I'm using it to block ps4 updates as well. after hearing that @atreyu187 's system not only downloaded but installed the latest firmware despite having both selections being disabled in system settings, I decided to block the update servers. updating will generate an error with the proxy enabled, but the internet still works. :) the download function doesn't seem to work on my system either. I wasn't going to risk it updating. I'm still on 3.55 actually. cc proxy has been working very well with both systems.

Yeah as long as I'm on 5.5.1 I know I don't need Haxchi, I only got this for possible 5.6.0 ksploit with Haxchi. Because I don't like spoofing and didn't wanna lose my chance to get the game from eshop.

Btw, dimok just released a sig-check patcher homebrew as in elf, meaning no need fw.img to have all these patches applied in the kernel.
but it still lacks some access exclusive to the modified nand [fw.img].

The following signature checks are all patched out by this (which is equivalent to a custom fw.img):
  • cert verification
  • cached cert check
  • MCP authentication check
  • public key verification check
  • bootLogoTex and bootMovie.h264 check
  • region title launch check

At least it's still good to me since I only mess with sysNAND so far.

since I have haxchi installed, it's as simple as adding the sig patcher to the config.txt then uploading with wupclient.py. I'll probably keep using redNAND though since it's safer. I heard the wii u is like the wii in that its os is fragile. I'm using the same SD card for my virtual wii, redNAND, and loadiine. it's a 256GB card for when loadiine was the only way to boot games. aside from automatic updates, another thing I don't like about the wii-u is the limit to the number of games u can install to usb. I have the entire downloadable games catalog, and it actually only took around a terabyte. u can't install all of them though which sucks.

@Joonie , I just tried the signature patcher along with adding it to my config.txt. it's fast, but it doesn't allow the running of games with fake tickets. u'll get a "the purchaser of this software has been deleted" error. I tested out the same game on redNAND, and it booted up without issue. I also found something out about haxchi . u can only use the wii-u gamepad to boot the different homebrews. the pro controller doesn't work with it. :(

I just had this thought - what if haxchi only works with the gamepad, because u can only play ds games with the gamepad? that seems like a possibility to me.

maybe I should write a xampp tutorial? ...considering mongoose doesn't work on 5.5.1 since it can't use php. u'll get an error if u try it. u'll want a way to launch that homebrew if not using haxchi. it's pretty straight forward though.

@Joonie , u may be better off going the redNAND route. if a new update hits, we may have to unlink both nands. redNAND bricks if u format it, which would leave the sysNAND for formatting. I plan to grab all my games and saves off of the hdd before that happens. I'm not sure what will happen as far as the usb device goes though. it will require a new, unique id for encryption once u format, so I suspect u'll be nagged to format the drive or the console will restart on sysNAND while redNAND will still be linked to it. I may need to buy another usb selector. I'm using one currently with my wii and wii-u as both use the same hdd. I just flip a switch to send the signal to each console. however, my usb device - I placed that in an external shell with a toggle switch, so all I need to do there is flip that switch instead of the usb selector when I'm in wii mode. with wii-u mode, it tries to force a format on u which u can cancel. however, the system will restart and u'll be nagged about it again. there's an app that can make the device invisible in wii-u mode, but it also makes it invisible on the pc. :-/ my wii-u hdd doesn't have a toggle switch or a usb selector, so I'll probably need a new usb selector. the usb drive is not self-powered either, so it uses a y cable to draw power from the wii-u. I'll either need to buy a usb selector or a external shell for the drive. a usb selector would be cheaper, but they can be hard to find. I was told on temp that they didn't even exist. well, I found one, and it works well. :)

right now, my config.txt file has redNAND by default, holding B boots the homebrew channel, holding Y boots wupclient cfw, holding A boots loadiine, and holding X boots sysNAND with signature patches. tomorrow, I'm going to add holding R boots IOS reboot which will boot sysNAND from redNAND by resetting the Wii-U.

@Joonie , I think I was correct about using the gamepad with haxchi. I was using the wiimote to alphabetize, and I was going to go to redNAND with the wiimote, and it said something about turning on the gamepad and using it from that point forward. I think the gamepad is more closely related to the pro controller, but it doesn't work due to the lack of a screen.

not sure if people know, but u can now hack the virtual Wii with the wupclient. :) u no longer need a specific game. I personally hacked my with the smash stack, so I haven't tried the wupclient method. it sounds very easy to do though. if I write a tutorial on hacking the virtual wii, I'll include the wupclient version. the only reason I haven't written that tutorial was due to the fact that I've not tried every hack with each game that allows u to install the hackmii installer which in turn allows u to install the homebrew channel and ios 58. I only have experience with the smash bros hack. :)

@Joonie , I'm at my last games to install. I have around 250 when the limit is 292, but I think that limit can be increased if it's possible to delete say the wii channel, disc channel, system settings, etc. tiles on redNAND. I don't know if it's possible. that may be included in the supposed 300 limit. I believe it is actually. anyway, I've separated regular NAND and redNAND since redNAND contains the tickets for certain games. u have to have a ticket, valid or not, or the game won't boot. I encountered my second error with a game after installing that 175 or so games. it was Watch Dogs. apparently, the entire game didn't get extracted. it was 12GBs when it's supposed to be over 15GBs. I've redone it. I'm playing the virtual Wii atm, so I'll do it tomorrow morning at some point. anyway, I've left room for zelda and anything else that whets my interest considering I have around 40 games I can install before that truncation. :)

btw, the virtual Wii doesn't work in redNAND. I don't think it's dumped. I believe the virtual Wii is its own NAND which is the reason for this issue. from what I understand, mlc is the NAND partition where games r stored, slc is where licenses r stored, and sc is the core OS of the system. I know for sure the first two r correct, I'm only guessing that sc is the core os considering it couldn't be anywhere else. when u dump ur NAND to redNAND, the licenses from the regular NAND r dumped and injected as well. I'm thinking it would be fine to delete the default NAND tiles since they're a part of redNAND. I think with the USB, u have to delete the game with system config tool since the game will appear on both sysNAND and redNAND, but will only be playable on the NAND that houses the ticket during installation. retail games contain this ticket, but with a slight modification. modifying it will allow the ticket to be read as legit, so u can install the game to sysNAND and use it on sysNAND without sig patches. sig patches on sysNAND or redNAND r needed to bypass legit tickets. it would be like using a rap file with reactpsn or psnpatch on the ps3. since the vsh.self has been patched to allow a fake act.dat or the aforementioned to work, it doesn't matter. the same is true of the Wii U. those sig patches r key.

@Joonie , I'll let u know if I have success deleting the default tiles. u only need Yoshi's Island, which is on my usb drive, to function to revert back to sysNAND while holding R. the only way to delete those tiles, possibly, is through system config tool. using the default way won't work at all afaik.

@Joonie , check this out. my new virtual wii with theme. I saw this on gbatemp, and I tried it. it works without issue. I even booted up cfg usb loader and dkc returns to make sure nothing wrong happened:

@pinky Are you still on the scene?
or anyone else for that matter? i'm new to the wii-u hack and im unsure about CBHC as some are saying its bad.
i've installed haxchi and can't get the my games to work.
is there a way to rip games yet?

pinky is currently banned. He may be back here or not, I cannot tell you but he is still active on other forums afaik as "godreborn".
I cannot help you with the Wii, sorry.

No way to rip games, you can only download them from Nintendo's servers for now. CBHC has reported many successes, but don't take my word for it because some people have bricked.

Yes on the temp he is godreborn. He is annoying, he posts tutorials that we already have.

I won't be coming back. this website is better off without me anyway. I apologize for all the trouble I've caused. things really seemed to go downhill once I was removed as mod.. I only signed in to give people a heads up on what I've been up to. I recently installed a new pad on my adjustable dpad xbox 360 controller:

ejwztw.jpg

the other one was developing a hairline fracture, so I think it was only a matter of time before it broke off. I've had two others break off from the controller, so I think the adjustable dpad is garbage. nothing beats the ps3/4's

my ps2 stopped reading discs, so I repaired that today when I got a new laser for it. it's back in working order now. :)

I've added a tutorial to the ps3 or rather amended a preexisting one that contains the hex for enabling gameboots as well as conversion credentials for gameboots. I've added a tutorial on adding xbox 360 updates to xebuild gui since an official one was never released for 17511. I've also added a tutorial on installing the smallest demo for adrenaline. @atreyu187 can help with that. u need three systems if going with Ark - the ps3, psp, and vita/pstv. Adrenaline doesn't mind if the license is fake, just as long as one's in there. Ark, however, does mind. I could add a tutorial on cloning games with the auto cloner. it doesn't manipulate the app.db correctly, so that's something to look out for. both the app meta and .pbp r incorrect if using ark or vhbl. all these additions r on gbatemp . the ps3 tutorials look kinda messed up since they contain multiple spaces - a result from using my ps3 tutorials on crunch since less had to be changed.

and, yes, I'm godreborn now. I've retired the pinky name. hit me up on temp if u need help with a particular system. to answer ur question, cbhc is dangerous because using it improperly or if the game becomes corrupted will result in a 100% brick. I personally don't use. I've bought 75 games for my system, and I don't want to lose them if something goes wrong. speaking of which, I updated my spoofed system a few days ago, and I have it blocking updates again. I plan to sell the system, but how much is just the system and cables with no gamepad worth anyway?

@pinky
Welcome back bro-tato-chip!
Glad to hear things are looking up for you... Hope all is well.
Seen you on temp doing good, but I never created an account there to hit you up with lol... Im lazy when it comes to making many accounts and remembering passwords... sorry about that.
If you change your mind there is no grudges here. ;)
