Nintendo Pinky's Wii-U Tutorials

this is starting to. I don't remember if I mentioned it in the disability thread, but I got a lawyer. it's now going to take 6 months to a year to get my hearing with 3 more months to reach a decision.

anyway, I didn't want to lose u and others as friends, so I wanted to tell u where I was located since I'm under a different name, a name that even predates pinky. I still talk with @atreyu187 though over text. in fact, I used some of his information in my latest vita tutorial since he knows more about the vita and idu mode than I do. :) if u don't want to make an account on temp, hit me up with a pm here and I'll give u my email address or phone number. I think I should still get notifications for pm's, so I should answer. that's only if u want to. lol

Good to see you around again and you seem to be in a lot better spirits. And I'm glad my tinkering around with the Vita help you now if I could only manage to help myself as I'm having some issues I cannot figure out. But if you come across a VPK that says CEX2REX avoid it like the plague it seems to be some sort of hybrid between the Vita test kit and IDU mode. Even after a full firmware install it still shows up as it's in IDU mode and I can't get it out no application will convert it back to a standard system as they report it and IDU mode but when you try to change it it will tell you that you are already in retail mode which you are not. So right now it is just a dummy system if I break it no big deal it's not like I don't have three or four more PlayStation TVs to go through

We just always wanted the old pinky back... thats all, and from what I can tell, nothing has changed with that.
That sucks that it is still going to take so long, but things can only get better now, in almost every way.
I dont like to make too many, because once I have one I feel obligated to start using it, and it takes time away from the main sites I am a part of.
Trying to stay loyal where Im needed is all.
If I dont hear from you in forum I will definitely hit you up pinkstuff...
Nice to hear from you again... truly... we were worried about you... Im sure you know that (even the ones that wont admit it) ;)

u both r very kind. @atreyu187 , I'll definitely avoid that. when I originally converted to IDU mode on my vita, I deleted my wifi and even enabled flight mode for fear of the forced update to 3.63. I was less concerned on my pstv since u mentioned to me that u could enable IDU mode while using the dns to block updates. neither system had a chance to update which is when I added that tutorial. I also added the second dns as backup which u mentioned to me as u recall. ;) it would be a nightmare to be stuck in IDU mode especially with the vita and the five minute time-limit. I had my vita shut off several times while I was trying to get the usb connection to work. I finally found a way to make it work thankfully. that's before I knew that the dns would protect u even in idu mode. at least u have extra pstvs. I only have one vita and one pstv, so I'd be hesitant to risk one of them with something suspicious.

@UniqueUserName , thank u. if u prefer email, we can do that. btw, my ps2 laser lasted 12 years which I think is pretty good. I think it failed due to lack of use. I only used it to test things out for u and others. we're back in business though. now, I'm going to let the system spin a disc every few days to prevent it from going bad. I don't game on my ps2 very often, so I think that's for the best. I want all of my consoles to work even ones I don't play much. :)

LOL, no I never use my email for anything, except for contacting people I cannot through normal means...
Like previous Developers who have now left the scene completely for example.
Forum or PM will be fine with me.
Just keep in touch if you disappear for any reason. ;)

As to the PS2...
There isnt a need to use your laser every few days... in fact, that will just speed up its failure rate from what Ive heard.
Even if you dont use it for a decade, it should still work if not overused, unless it is dropped or receives any power surges.
Cleaning the laser-eye, or re-adjusting its aim/sensitivity sometimes become necessary with age... but not usually the case if you are barely using it.
Great to hear yours is all fixed up though... congrats! :D

that's fine. I'll receive a notification if u've sent me a pm. I'll respond to it. I'll send u one from time-to-time to see how u've been. if u post in this thread, that's also okay. I do keep track of what's happening in the scene, and this is the site I use for that. I always have @atrehyu187 for the vita (if I have a question, and he sometimes texts me about new vita breakthroughs), but this site is second-to-none when it comes to ps3 news. :)

I just did some extensive testing with the new laser. the game that gave me the most trouble with the old laser, mega man x3, worked almost perfectly. there were some skips during the cut scenes of the 8 robot bosses, but I think that's due to the disc being very scratched. my ps2 runs the game better than the psx emulator does. there's lots of skipping with that one, not only the cutscenes, but the music as well, so it might be the disc image itself that's messed up. ps2 games work perfectly as well. I tried Dragon Quest V for that test. :) I'll try not to overdo the laser. I think the old one died due to nonuse.

@UniqueUserName (or anyone), I'm in a dilemma. recently, my Wii/vWii hard drive enclosure failed. I put it in a new enclosure today. before, with the original enclosure, the hdd wouldn't turn on. it turns on fine now. however, I now have unallocated memory showing up in disk management. I used ustealth on the drive a while back to ensure the drive was only accessible by the virtual Wii and not the Wii U. it will ask u to format the drive and reset if the drive is on normally, but ustealth hides the drive from the Wii U so u don't get nagged with the formatting screen. anyway, I had forgotten that I had ustealthed the drive, and I went straight to partition recovery. my only other option would be to format which I'm not doing. I have 1000 games on the drive along with my emuNAND for wiiware/virtual console games. my nintendont games and saves r safe since I put them on the sd card in order to avoid the error if two drives r plugged in at the same time. anyway, partition recovery didn't work, so now I'm on to file recovery which will take over 8 hours. I plan to format the drive after I extract every file from it. do u or anyone know a way I can recover these files? has anyone used ustealth on their virtual Wii drive? I did open ustealth to see if the drive was hidden. it showed up as "normal." I ask u mostly because u work with soft modding the ps2 with an hdd connected. have u ever had this problem or an hdd enclosure fail on u? I don't know what my options r at this point if file recovery doesn't work. do u know of a good recovery software?

btw, I added the missing segments to my ps3, 360, and psv tutorials here which were only on gbatemp. the psv one is probably the best tutorial I've written for the system. the only thing missing from that is cloning games. I have 3 evil lord demos installed for adrenaline, ark, and vhbl. each one is only 6.9MBs. lol :)

Ive only had two fail in the past decade... first time Testdisk was able to recover everything (external) where it allowed me to copy everything off the drive to another, but the other time (internal- the most recent time) nothing worked.

I dont think anything Im familiar with will help you unfortunately, as you were using unfamiliar to me apps, and Ive never modded a Wii...
The PS2s I have actual games on arent even in NTFS/FAT partitioning (APA/PFS).

Sorry broham, wait for the experts to chime in before doing anything drastic.
By the way, you are the man when it comes to game collections apparently, because I cant compete with what you have on any console. :( Nice!

thanks. u've always been a great friend. I asked on gbatemp (awaiting a response). one of the members there created ustealth, so I'm sure someone will answer me at some point.

btw, I'm selling my entire 3ds collection (10 games) including cubic ninja which can be used to hack the system. my cubic ninja is significantly cheaper than others which can go as high as $90. my six remaining games end tomorrow. I've already sold four of them. :) I've ripped the saves from the carts. I wrote a tutorial on that in my 3ds tutorials. I haven't posted my wii u or 3ds tutorials on temp since they're the Nintendo experts. they'd be laughable compared with the tutorials they already have. lol I posted my ps3, 360, and psv tutorials though. my ps3 ones look kinda messed up since I had to use crunch's version. they (temp) don't a tab tag like here, so I couldn't use psx-place's. my ps3 tutorials were actually so long that I had to split them into two parts. I think they have either a 10,000 word count or 100,000 character count - can't recall which. also, btw, my tutorials r now over 200 pages. yes, my goal. :D

I'm using testdisk atm. I'm hoping it can fix the partition table which is probably what's messed up.

@UniqueUserName. testdisk failed. it said "unable to recover partition." I've managed to snag the files though without the partition, but I don't like the way the files r being ripped. all of the folder r on the root of the extraction folder:

24c5kcg.jpg

there are my games. :) though, Shared 1 and 2 as well as SYS go to emunand which should be in the wii u nand folder. that's what I have usb loader gx directed to. well, at least the files r extractable I guess. lol I bought a new drive and a new enclosure. they're connected to my computer atm, so I plan to copy the files over to the new drive once this is finished. it required a 2TB drive to extract content to. I just hope this works. I mean 1,000 games were lost. :-/

I dont understand... If Testdisk did what you were asking for, how did it fail? Do you mean because it wasnt able to fix your MBR or something as well?
It looks like it found and recovered everything, but you simply copied the files off in the order they were stored on the drive (block by block in sequence)... not the way you had them organized in Windows. ;) Maybe run a disk defrag on it first and try again?
Very happy to hear you got all your stuff back, and glad I was of help afterall.

no, I'm using a different app. it's copying the files from the messed up drive to a larger drive. well, the drive might not be messed up, just the structure is. I think I might be getting everything back, but it's hard to say since it's only at 47% transferring over all of the wii games atm. however, I don't know if they work or parts r missing. it would be herculean task to test each and every game when as I said there r over 1,000. :-P

LMAO@herculean task! No doubt. Im going through that right now retesting my collection with POPStarter, but I dont even have half of what you are working with lol.
You may not know, but Testdisk can do what you are doing with a different app, and you can browse inside the drive to pick and choose what you want as well... Its not just to fix partitions/MBR/etc.
I used it solely to reclaim an externals contents about five years ago... and transferred from within Testdisk.
Maybe if you cannot reclaim everything with your current app, it might be worth a shot at seeing if that will copy your contents how they should be (or at least to reclaim it all and not just parts of stuff ;)).
Either way, Id recommend a complete re-test of your collection anyways, as for all we know so far maybe none of them will work with possible missing pieces of data (worst case scenario of course).
Good luck pinkstuff!

lol herculean task - I knew u'd get a kick out of me using that word. u have an immature sense of humor...like me. :-P jk

I'll take a look at test disks other functions. is it possible that testdisk failed because I was backing up the files with another app at the same time? I'll try it again once this finishes. I actually had to format another drive that was full (0KBs left) just to make room for the content of the messed up drive. that got me thinking about my content, so I'm going to backup my 3ds' micro sd and my wii u's sd just to be safe. I might as well make a backup of my psvita's memory cards too. I'm afraid I'm out of element with this one since I've only had one other drive fail that I can recall, and that was one for the ps3. it's sitting in a box on my bed atm. I've got hard drives scattered all over the place. I didn't even put the top back on the messed up drive just trying to get it to boot with an enclosure. suffice it to say, it's a mess over here due to this stupid thing.

I dont know why it failed, nor if other programs will actually interfere, but I guess its possible it couldnt perform its functions while you had some of the files active in another app yes.

it failed again when I wasn't extracting files. I think the partition is a lost cause now. I'm transferring over the wii games it found. I'm going to test a couple games once that's done. it's going to be a few hours before that can happen since I'm transferring about 600GBs. I'm going to redo the emuNAND since I still have all of the games on my pc. I'm just hoping this works. if I had the money, I'd backup all of my hard drives, but that's a lot of dough. I have about 16 hdds. :-p I guess this is one good thing about using discs with my ps2. I won't lose everything if one disc goes bad.

@Joonie , there's a system config tool that works with sysNAND. u can't use the normal one or u'll brick. afaik, system config tool is part of the wii u sdk, but someone has gotten it to work on sysNAND by modifying it. I tried it out. it works as normal, 'cause I installed a forwarder to loadiine on sysNAND which also appears in redNAND since I installed it to the usb I believe. one downside to system config tool on sysNAND is that it will create a question mark tile on redNAND if u install it to the mlc NAND instead of usb. I'm not sure y that is. it's recommended to install it to the mlc NAND though, so it's livable. u can remove the question mark tile by uninstalling it via the normal uninstall section in system settings. I've been thinking about installing all of my redNAND content to sysNAND, then installing coldboot hax. :)

So, what you're saying, is that I can boot mocha cfw on sysnand for patching sig check , and I can install that sysconfig tool on sysnand and can be used without CBCH 1.6 ?(I don't like the current CBHC, so I manually use haxchi when needed)

yes, I'll pm u the link. I can't recall if I was in mocha or just normal cfw, but it works without issue. u just need wup installer to install it. I personally like the interface of system config tool more than wup installer. however, it should be noted that misusing it can cause a brick. I don't use it for anything other than install/uninstall content. I believe u can backup saves with it as well. and, u can check if ur running region free too. there r other options that can cause a brick if misused though, but I doubt u'd mess with those. :-P

@pinky

I'm just going to install all those unsigned apps to USB stick [8gb] and leave Sysnand as clean as possible :)

and will avoid CBHC for now but haxchi only

I have multiple unsigned games installed to my usb drive with the tickets being installed to redNAND. I backed up my redNAND with all those tickets recently. :)

have u hacked the virtual wii? I read that modifying the virtual wii or the wii u side will prevent u from installing new updates. backing up the NAND of the virtual wii will allow u to reflash the NAND to make it clean in case there's an update with zelda.

I was reading about the NAND of the wii u. the wii u and the virtual wii actually use the same NAND chip. I forgot how it's divided exactly though. it was on temp. speaking of which, they wrote an article about how zelda would be the last first party game for the system. that project giant robot by Miyamoto, creator of Mario and Zelda, has been cancelled due to problems with development. if there's no update with zelda, I think we're good to go with the system (i.e. no further updates). :-P
