Here is a list of still problematic games with OPL,
that have crashes, glitches, etc.

If someone is having others problem please report them with a form,
but before you'll submit:

  1. Please check all the compatibility lists:
    http://www.psx-place.com/threads/opl-compatibility-lists.19037/
    .

  2. Here is also known issues thread:
    http://www.psx-place.com/threads/still-problematic-known-issues-games-with-opl.20373/.

  3. Check your game with few OPL releases.
Try your game also with latest BETA:

    http://www.psx-place.com/threads/automated-daily-build-system-for-opl-wle.19382/.

  4. Try compatibility mode(s) (e.g 6, 3, 2, 6+2, 6+3, 6+2+3).

  5. Check MD5 checksum.
Here is tutorial how to check MD5 checksum:
    http://www.psx-place.com/threads/how-to-check-game-md5-checksum.19277/.

  6. A photo of glitch, crash, etc will be nice.

  7. USB games must be unfragmented. If not, they will not work properly.

You can use Auslogics Disk Defrag to defragment your device.
Using Windows embedded defragmenter or PowerDefragmenter is not recommended.
Form:

Games that need specific OPL builds (e.g. no GSM, PS2RD) or need a "cold boot" can be tested again using a newer commit. With the fix that will initialize all registers to 0, the boot conditions of the game should become uniform. Regardless of what the user was last doing.

I've tried OPL rev 1116 and 1107.
I've notice new Blue debug color (which is currently 1st).

Now there is strange bug when I enable PS2 logo,
I'm getting stuck on infinite loop during debug colors.
When I disable PS2 logo game will boot (from HDD).

From USB some games will not boot e.g Half-life (I'm getting stuck at 1st loading screen).
God of War II (BSOD).

The Fast and the Furious still needs cold boot to pass screen that I mentioned in 1st post
to play FMV.

None of the compatibility modes (even mode 7) helps Virtua Quest (I'm getting stuck at pink screen).

I haven't got today too much time for further tests although.

But maybe this fix that will initialize all registers to 0 is currently not working properly?

Please wait for this pull request to me merged: https://github.com/ifcaro/Open-PS2-Loader/pull/119

From USB some games will not boot e.g Half-life (I'm getting stuck at 1st loading screen).

For this one, I remember some people said it will work if you enabled the PS2 logo.
So if wiping the EE registers did not help, it might be due to some different state on the IOP side. Patching the game, might be also a solution.

God of War II (BSOD).

EDIT: please wait for the pull request to be merged. I think it's affected by the broken argument passing.

Ah okay, I see. That is unfortunate.

None of the compatibility modes (even mode 7) helps Virtua Quest (I'm getting stuck at pink screen).

I remember now, the game has a memory allocation mechanism that blocks the high module storage location. So there was never a complete solution for this game, although we have managed to squeeze OPL (without the modules though) below the game.

I haven't got today too much time for further tests although.

It is okay. Anyway, thanks for your help.

But maybe this fix that will initialize all registers to 0 is currently not working properly?
It's working as intended. But it just isn't a magic bullet. Although, I was hoping it would fix more of these "must boot from cold boot" games.

Everything should be fixed in OPNPS2LD-180801-MODE-UPDATE.ELF.
Now games seems to load from USB.
PS2 logo no loges makes troubles.

Enabling PS2 logo for this game only fixes sound issues.
Anyway with your prototype (OPNPS2LD-180801-MODE-UPDATE.ELF) everything should be fine now (when I enable PS2 logo).

Since now I can boot games from USB without problems I've checked Fast and the Furious once again.
Unfortunately nothing has changed.

I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere, but Hot Shots Golf 3 has a bug where the trail of the golf ball reflects a rainbow spectrum across a large portion of the screen at certain angles, and it gets pretty bothersome. Kinda hard to explain. I know it does this on HDD, and if I remember correctly SMB and USB as well (although I do not use those methods anymore). I use the NTSC-U/C version.

  1. Ultimate Pro-Pinball (tested only PAL version SLES_535.08).
    I have a problem with SLES_535.08.Ultimate Pro-Pinball through USB.

This game boots normally on my PHAT console SCPH-50004 (need modes 2+6).
With SLIM SCPH-77004, 79004 I have only BSOD.
PS2 logo appears on all consoles.

    ultimate-small2.png

When I turn off mode 2 I only have at least first loading screen on SLIM+PHAT
and after few seconds loading stops (so game needs this mode).

To convert BIN to ISO I used WinBin2Iso.

Game works on all consoles with OPL 0.9.1, 0.9.2.
Lowest OPL version I get it worked was 712:
    http://psx-scene.com/forums/f150/open-ps2-loader-project-v0-9-3-a-62141/index589.html#post1148617
Unfortunately next version that I have is 746 (so there is a large gap).
Fix: https://www.sendspace.com/file/7g5whb
Source: https://github.com/sp193/Open-PS2-Loader/tree/ultimatepropinball-fix

EDIT: replaced file because I forgot to update 1 part.

The game has got a function that is called by multiple threads, however its inter-task protection mechanism does not work. One tell-tale sign is the need for synchronous reads/mode 2.
The malfunctioning inter-task protection mechanism was replaced with a semaphore. However, it also uses iReleaseWaitThread() to wake up the 2nd thread for activities, but that can break the inter-task protection and/or any system function that blocks. Hence the signaling mechanism was replaced with something similar to the one used within ATAD (SetAlarm+WaitEventFlag).

The game is a multi-ELF game, hence the fix has to be applied to 4 different ELFs. I do not know if the Japanese release has the same glitches, but I hope not. Hopefully, the bugs were found and fixed by the developer, since those 2 Japanese releases might be 2 years newer than the European release.

With this patch, the game should work with no compatibility modes. I haven't tested it after refining the patch, but it should be fine.

I've only tested SLES_535.08 Ultimate Pro-Pinball with SCPH-50004 through USB.
I'm able to pass first loading screen without any compatibility modes:

However when I enter main menu there is no BGM (background music).
The same is situation is in table (when I choose table I want, BGM don't work).

The game crashes at some sequences (when I "throw" the ball in Police car, etc).

I've also tried to launch the game with mode 6, 6+2, 6+3, but none of these compatibility modes helps.

On a flip-side I've completed SLES_513.01 SOS: The Final Escape, without any compatibility modes
through USB. Game stutters at intro FMV.
I've some slowdowns, but the same situations is through SMB, so this is probably game flaw.

Here is my save, after completing the game and drinking ~100 liters of water:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/mfapt5bs2yb2dch/SLES_513.01.SOS+-+The+Final+Escape+.7z.

I have also notice that when I have only my network adaptor connected, OPL gives me an error:
221: Hard disk not formatted.

I have also notice that when I have only my network adaptor connected, OPL gives me an error:

I suppose you have the HDD-Menu on 'AUTO' to automatically start the device?

Maybe there should be an additional error, stating 'HDD not connected (+ new error-code)'. ;)

On another note... The 'tips' which explain a function are pretty non-standard...

  1. The texts and the black frame are placed differently... Some frames overlap 'O.K.' whilst others are rather 'to the right'... The same for the text...
  2. PS2Logo has a weird but interesting 'text-frame' which is not black, but is kind of fading to the left and right...

Here is a new version: https://www.sendspace.com/file/qeakxj

I have changed the use of WaitSema to PollSema, to keep the original polling nature of the APEMOD module. It seems to work better.

Now I've BGM in all tables and in main menu.

I forgot add that previously even slideshow fails to launch
(when you don't do anything in main menu after 1-2 min, this slideshow should launch).
With new fix, everything seems to work.

I've tried this game with SCPH-50004 and SCPH-77004.
Now the game don't need any compatibility mode to launch.

I can exit from one table to another and nothing is crashing.

I need to test this game further, because I do not want to "complain" again later,
when something goes wrong. ;)

Thanks @sp193 you've (probably) fix another game again.

I've added few games and polished 1st post just a lil' bit.
Even added a form, when someone will be interested to add his game into this list (of problematic games).

Here are a couple images of the problem:

The rainbow/white trail stretches across the whole screen vertically and changes through different angles. It is most noticeable on tee off.

A8TEsAG.jpg

This is a shot after tee off. The trail shows in very weird angles and is triangular and stretched. You can see it on the bottom of the screen going across the fairway.

I have tried this on the latest OPL daily build through HDD. This problem has been in OPL for years, I can remember even OPL v0.8 doing this as well. I have just tried the compatibility modes to no avail. Hope this info helps!

Wow, it sounds like it was really a mistake to make the APEMOD's threads wait rather than poll.
To be honest, I don't really know why there's such a difference but you can see that polling certainly made things better.

I've tried this game with SCPH-50004 and SCPH-77004.

This is great! Thanks.

But well, we're cleaning up the mess that the game developers made. So it can't get worse, when it's already broken.

Thanks for your help.

I've added few games and polished 1st post just a lil' bit.
Even added a form, when someone will be interested to add his game into this list (of problematic games).

The original intent I had when I created the original thread on psx-scene, was to inform the users of those games that we know of that aren't compatible but have no solution to.
It was meant to prevent people from submitting new reports in the (then) compatibility thread, since nothing will change.

This is a different thread, so you are free to decide on what you want to do with this thread. But if you want to make it a compatibility reporting thread: right now, there's also the opl-cl service, although I don't really know if it's still functional (I don't use OPL much). If it's still usable, then maybe we can just sort by incompatible games. At least, I thought that we can sort the games there...

Here are a couple images of the problem:

Graphical glitches like that are probably related to the EE and/or the VUs, since they make up the 3 paths for drawing.

If the glitch is still there when you try the latest beta as @jolek suggests, can you also try with modes 3+6 (unhook syscalls + disable IGR). Disable GSM & PADEMU, if you have any of those enabled.
This will fully unhook OPL from the kernel, which will let the game run with as little external interference as possible.

I have tried this on the latest OPL daily build through HDD. This problem has been in OPL for years, I can remember even OPL v0.8 doing this as well. I have just tried the compatibility modes to no avail. Hope this info helps!

Given that it's essentially been like that since the dawn of time, it is possible that the game just has a glitch like Fatal Frame.
We need to first establish that there is currently no good way to avoid triggering the bug in the first place.

Once again I forgot to add something.
Through USB or SMB, intro credits FMV stutters.
IGR don't work (L1+L2+R1+R2+start+select), although power off works (L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+R3).

I've tested this game for couple of hours, for now everything is fine.

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Complains, complains...

Without them, there will be no feedback. ;)

Done, moved into "Still problematic\known issues games with OPL":
http://www.psx-place.com/threads/still-problematic-known-issues-games-with-opl.20373/.
At the end of that post (originally yours), I've added warning.

It is SCUS_971.30 and it is the 1.01 version. However, I just tested with comp modes 3+6 and it fixed it! Thanks for the suggestion @sp193.

What version of an OPL did you tried?

Can you also post your results at least on one compatibility list:
http://www.psx-place.com/threads/opl-compatibility-lists.19037/.

I think that currently the easiest way to do it, it'll be with this form, for @Algol Compatibility List:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ei8h4nSY8oT2IkufqRMZqWrSXMbcleOGkLE5E7hTnJ8/viewform.

Main list is here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MLEw7TIKvn9MCwd5Ptbqh2lkUj3lX6YQ2wPgLEx8Koo/edit#gid=0.

Just tried the latest commit from buildbot (45c9a78) and Hot Shots Golf 3 works perfect without any compatibility modes! I was using an older version of OPL before. Feel free to remove the game from the first post. Thanks!
